- Q:what bearings are faster? black panter bearings or red bones bearings?
- bones reds are faster, and lasted me longer than black panther did. theres a smiply reasoning behind this. Reds are made by Bones with speicallizes in skateboard bearings and makes the most top of the line bearings out there Black Panthers, made by Shorty's arent nearly as good quality as the majority of shorty's efforts go to things like decks bushings hardwear and bearings so they cant make them of such a good quality.

- Bones are pretty good. You might want to look at what your favorite skateboarder uses. Reflex and ninja bearings are also pretty good.
- Q:Can anyone explain what the symtoms of main bearings being bad versus rod bearings? I think I have a slight rod knock and am going to try and replace the bearings but I wanted to know if I have to replace the main bearings too or if there is a way to know. Also does anyone know if I can replace the main bearings on my car without having to pull the engine out? I know I can do this for the rod bearings by taking oil pan off and replacing them...I have a 1996 honda accord LX
- Learn from this!!!! Bearing failure, for the most part, is from the use of inappropriate oil!!!! You should be able to access all bearings without removing the engine, but, you will have to remove the front pulleys and dampener. Bearings fail under high heat, or under sludgy oil passageways. If you remove your oil filler cap, and turn it over. THe underside reflects the condition of the whole engine internally. If it is brown or black waxy or flaky, your passageways will look the same. Read your owner's manual for the EXACT specification of oil to use in Honda. The conatainer should read 'Designed for use in Honda' or 'approved for use in Honda. I, personally, would never use anything but Mobil One or ELF oil that meets honda spec's. Usually, it's the rod bearings that begin making noises. They are the easiest to replace. Good Luck!!! GET WISE!!! Before working on this, use butyl cello-solve to de-sludge the engine and clean out the oil galleys. The oil drain should then remove the offending culprit that caused the damage!!!
- Q:People aay that your bearings can last up to a year or two if you takw care of them. Whats this mean? How?
- A bearing's biggest enemy is water. Keeping them dry is key. Never remove the shields unless you are cleaning them. Use speed rings or washers and don't over-tighten the axle nut. Use denatured alcohol, carb cleaner or brake parts cleaner to clean bearings. Never use water, water based chemicals or rubbing alcohol. Don't use gasoline it is dangerous and leaves a film that attracts dirt. Use only a skateboard bearing lubricant for lubrication. Other types are usually too heavy and will slow you down. Never use WD-40 it leaves a dirt attracting film as well. Clean them when they sound loud or lose performance. There are a number of how-tos on bearing cleaning on the net.
- Q:i wasn't to sure how to tell. i didn't think that it mattered but i guess it does. i figured that out when i bought bearings and wheels and they didn't fit inside the wheels. can you please tell me how to tell what kind of bearings i need in this type of situation?
- All legit skateboard wheels have the same size space for bearings - ie they take the same bearings as each other. I think you are experiencing problems because the bearings need to fit very tightly into the wheels so that they don't come out under the huge forces skateboarding exerts So the good news is that you don't need to get anything new. To fit bearings, take one of the wheels off of one of your trucks. Put the bearing down over the axle, put the wheel over the top, and push down HARD (use bodyweight) until it pops into place. Take the wheel off, put the other bearing on the axle, turn the wheel round and repeat so the wheel has 2 bearings on it. It should fit flush into the space. To make sure (or to push it in that bit more) put the wheel on, and tighten the nut on the truck down onto the wheel until the bearings fit snugly. (just don't over-do it or you will wreck the bearings) Alternatively you can buy a tool to push the bearings in, or ask a skate shop to do it for you - but the method above should work easily

- ABEC ratings for skateboard bearings are useless. They are only for very high speed applications and do not take into consideration lateral forces encountered in skateboarding. Couldn't tell you if Bear bearings are better than Bones.

- You can buy oil for your bearings from the companys your self.I just did the ghetto way back when I used to skate wich was squirt WD 40 in a bowl and threw em in spun it around and dried with napkins. worked well for me.
