Q: I have recently fallen in love with crochetingwhat are some really good online websites that sell the yarn and hook at a reasonable price?
Watch for sales and couponsThere are so many at reasonable pricesJoann Fabrics, Herschner's, Mary Maxim, Annie's AtticThe aforementioned also offer free shipping ocassionally if you are a repeat customerThere are some beautiful yarns that are a lot more expensive that would warrent an occassional splurgeI am constantly looking for a good bargain.
Q: We've been getting ice dams in the winterShould we turn on our gable fan to cool off the attic? Would that help?
Probably not Assuming you have an adequate insulation blanket, the air in your attic should be pretty coldMost gable fans are thermostat controlled to turn on for excessive heat, generally over 90FThe ice dams are usually formed by the sun melting snow from the top of the roofSince it doesn't always get warm enough to melt all of the snow, ice reforms under the snow and backs up under the shingles, causing damage and sometimes leaksThe best thing to do is to install ice dam melters on the lower portions of your roofProbably too late for this year, but look to do it next summer.
Q: What medication can I take to treat ibs?
I like to use Italian Seasoning or Cajun Seasoning along with garlic powderReally, any seasoning mix is fineOr buy a commercial marinade, put the chicken in a pan with higher sides and pour the marinade onto it (Lawrey's has some good ones)Cook 20 minutes or so and you have chicken with juice that you can put onto potatoes or riceTwenty minutes is plenty of time, depending on the size of the chicken piecesCut into a piece and if the juices run clear, it's doneIf they're pink, it needs to cook a bit longerIf pink, check it again in 5 minutesChicken should not be rubbery, that's the sign of an undercooked piece of chicken.
Q: How do you get a snagged thread out of a yarn blanket?
99% of all blankets are yarnEither weave it into the blanket so it's invisible, or put a spot of fabric glue on the hole, let it dry thoroughly, then cut the excess off
Q: Just bought this home back in feb and im trying to fix it uptoday was so hot even with two window ac and two fans at either end of the house and two fans to help circulate the air it was still in the 90sLooking to get some cheaper ideas as this is my first home and i have a limited budget right nowAny ideas are welcomed. The two ac are well insulated when i put them in and as far as i can tell i have covered all the draft areas with new dry wall and sealed any holes that lead outside with spray foam or silicon caulkingJust to note what all ive been able to do so far.
4 eggs, room temperature 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup dark corn syrup 10 ounces butter, cubed and at room temperature In a large mixing bowl, whip the eggs until light and fluffyIn a small saucepan bring the sugar and the corn syrup to a boilLubricate the inside of a metal baster with a small amount of vegetable oil and dispense it completelyThen use this to drizzle the sugar mixture into the mixing bowl with the eggsThe mixer should be on low speed until you finish drizzling in all of the sugar mixtureOnce the entire mixture of the sugar is incorporated, slowly add the butter piecesOnly add more butter when you can no longer see the previously added piecesIt will go fast at first and then slow downContinue to whip until the mixture is creamyRAW EGG WARNING I suggest caution in consuming raw and lightly-cooked eggs due to the slight risk of Salmonella or other food-borne illnessTo reduce this risk, we recommend you use only fresh, properly-refrigerated, clean, grade A or AA eggs with intact shells, and avoid contact between the yolks or whites and the shell.
Q: I have a smoker/grill that is perfect length for forgingBut I'm worried If it could hold out at temp?
I lined a small steel drum with 2 of fire brick and refractory cementTwo propane flames with oxygen assist at the bottom and the crucible insideIt melts bronze in about three hours.
Q: I've been told this:quot;Bouncing knits around in the dryer can compact the fibers causing them to shrink or pillThat's how felt is made-so you get the idea.quot;what happened to my pants is they feel almost prickly since I took them out of the dryer and I think this is what happenedCould someone please explain this a bit further? Would it make them less comfortable to wear? And are the pilling effects permanent? I hope I don't sound really dumb for asking this.
Tell tale signs, being hot when it's cold, and vica versa.snapping like a twig and tell your significant other you're not the one yelling bloody murderUmmmm.having to use the toilet more often than usual, number one and two.thinking hard being the only one in the room crying over a stupid movie.I'm just guessing, LOL Worst Midlife Issues, I'd have to say women.
Q: A few months back I bought a lot of yarn, and then shortly after they were all over the place and then I bagged them up and I've recently started crocheting again so I got the bags of yarn and a lot of them are sticky for some reason (assuming they were in something before I bagged them up.) Anywho, I can't really use sticky yarn so can I clean balls of yarn (preferably without them unraveling and knotting and just generally turning into a big mess)? If so, how? [It just now occurred to me to put them in something like the sink or bathtub, but not sure how that'd turn out so I decided to just go ahead and post this.]
grab a sock mesh bag, the kind with the zipper top (closing the bag is a must) or a pillow case that you can tie the top close and put your yarn in the bag then run it through the washer and dryer, you can add fabric softener to it and it will be just fine, just remember to close your bag tight otherwise you will have yarn barf lol
