- Q: When low temperatures are predicted, what preventitive measures can be taken to avoid young buds from freezing
- Bring them inside, if possibleOtherwise cover them with a blanket, as that will trap some of the ground heat and keep the temperature under the blanket a little warmer.
- Q: I just got a new ball of yarn that has 49% nylon, 25% kid mohair, 17% wool, and 9% metallicSo 42% is feltableWill this yarn felt?
- For a yarn to felt well you need at least 85% non-superwash animal fiber in itYour yarn will felt a bit because of the amount of wool and mohair in it, but it will not felt completelyYou have 58% fibers that do not felt at all, so this would not be successful.
- Q: Is it a powder or a lotion or what? What does it do?
- A coarse grayish-green high-talc rock is soapstone or steatite and has been used for stoves, sinks, electrical switchboards, etcIt is often used for surfaces of lab counter tops and electrical switchboards because of its resistance to heat, electricity and acidsTalc finds use as a cosmetic (talcum powder), as a lubricant, and as a filler in paper manufactureTalc is used in baby powder, an astringent powder used for preventing rashes on the area covered by a diaper (see diaper rash)It is also often used in basketball to keep a player's hands dryMost tailor's chalk is talc, as is the chalk often used for welding or metalworkingTalc is also used as food additive or in pharmaceutical products as a glidantIn medicine talc is used as a pleurodesis agent to prevent recurrent pneumothoraxIn the European Union the additive number is E553bTalc is widely used in the ceramics industry in both bodies and glazesIn low-fire artware bodies it imparts whiteness and increases thermal expansion to resist crazingIn stonewares, small percentages of talc are used to flux the body and therefore improve strength and vitrificationIt is a source of MgO flux in high temperature glazes (to control melting temperature)It is also employed as a matting agent in earthenware glazes and can be used to produce magnesia mattes at high temperatures.
- Q: we currently have aluminum sidingOur windows are wooden, and some have quite a bit of damage.Which one would save us more money on energy?Which would improve the value of our home more?If you were a buyer, would either be a big selling point for you?
- From any energy savings standpoint, the insulation will have the greatest impact on your energy consumptionSIR (Savings to Investment ratio) values are typically in the double digit range wheras windows are typically a break even 1:1 (based on a 10 year paybackInterpretation: insulation 14:1 SIR money saved in unpurchased energy returns the cost of the insulation in less than on year (A 10 would be a year) Windows 1:1 10 years to return your initial expenseBut that is taking each item at its sole valueInsulation in conjunction with the window replacement (particularly a good double or triple paned, argon filled low e type window) will calculate out around 2 or 3:1 depending on the cost of the windowsGood quality intalled vinyl siding, properly installed with an undersheathing and continuous vapor barrier, while not a prime energy saver can help reduce bulk moisture infiltration, prevent air wash to existing insulation and give esthetic value to your home alsoSometimes it is a better idea to get all the options up frontThis is where a home energy anaylisis can be worth its weightbalanced breakdown of cost effective measures, and in some cases even tie ins to available financial grants and loans for specific energy measures installed by their recomendations.
- Q: I have this bright red beanie that my grandma made but i think its a bit too bright for me so i wanted to make it a burgundy colorand I was wondering if it was different than dying normal clothes or do i have to go through a different process?
- It depends on what fibre the beanie is made fromFor example some fibres will not take dye and some dyes have to be used with hot water which would ruin animal fibresThe fact that your item is a beanie makes no difference whatsoever.
- Q: Which one is the best? Fiberglass, blown foam, water-based foam, nano-cells, etcAlso, what quot;Rquot; values do they all have, and what is the difference between open and closed cell insulationWhich one is more eco-friendly? I am not worried about cost too much, but feel free to give me an idea if you wishThanks!
- i would try heating the barrell slightly while trying to push it down the breech thinking about the gun powder being absent the bullett and barrell lack heat so there is no expansion of the barrell or bullett degredation so maybe it lodged? Let me know how u make out

- After a few years of memorizing all the organic chemistry without actually understanding it, I took ionic organic chemistry which was a graduate level courseIt basically allowed you to look at any set of chemicals and figure out what was likely to reactIt was actually easier than memorizing all the reactionI don't know if that is helpful besides saying there is a light at the end of the tunnelYou can tell from the relative proclivity (searching for a word) of a particular groups to give up electronsIt does have to do with the electronegativies but it is more about how free the electron pairs are able to move from atom to atomYou need to have groups or atoms that can take electrons when there are electrons to giveYou have to think about it from the point of view of certain groups attracting electrons that might make it easier for another group to form a bond thereIt was quite a while ago when I took the courseI only knew it as ionic organic chemistryIt would be worth looking into because you seem to have anticipated it.
- Q: We have tried savlon but nothign is happeninghelp!?
- Well, i may not be that old, but i have helped my dad do a LOT of insulation installing on our garage at our new house, the best thing i found was after i got fiber glass particles in my skin 'mainly from my elbow up to my wrist, and fingers' i first washed it out, (Warm/Hot) water, and then used rubbing alcohol to help get it out(on a cotton ball, or pour it on directly then rinse again) Anyways, good luck!
