Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.

Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.

Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.

Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

Q: So, I'm 38 weeks pregnantLast night I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about how my cat has been trying to get into the bassinet, and it has me worried that once the baby is here, he might try to curl up into the bassinet at night with the babyMy kitty is very sweet, and means no harm I'm sure, he just can't resist small box types things (like a bassinet!)I'm wondering if I draped a sheet over the top of the bassinet would that work to keep the kitty out and the baby safeIt has a canopy top, so it would almost be like a tent over the baby.Believe me, if we locked the cat out of the room, he would howl and howl all night long, and none of us would get any sleep at allBesides, he knows how to open the doors in our house. Is this a good idea?
This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard a politician sayFord built the automobile before there were paved roadsIt was Ford and automobiles that necessitated road in the first placeThere were roads for horses and carriages in America before America was America, and bridges, and businesses, and news outlets, before the government had even been establishedAnd the freeway system hadn't even been thought of until full on 50 YEARS after automobiles hit the streets Phones were invented before interstate lines for telephones were necessary, and The Pony Express, guys who delivered mail across state lines, before the USPS All in all, it is the ingenuity of humans whose inventions necessitated the government controlling, for lack of a better word, the interstate dealings of the postal service, telephones, transportation, etcthe government was not needed for these things until American individuals invented them And yes, I did build themWith my tax moneySo did youSo did we allAnd with all the tax money that we all pay, why are our roads falling apart? Bridges on the verge of collapse? Infrastructure seriously lacking? Because government is ineptIt takes the humans to make the govt work, such as it is By the way, income tax didn't get instituted until 1913 in the first placeHow did the govt manage all these things before income tax??

Take a piece of wax paper and place it over the beadsThen place an old towel on top of thatGently melt the top, and then flip off the beadsPlace another sheet of wax paper and then towel over that side and then meltMake sure you let it harden before you play with itAlso, if you melt too much, it will look horrible, if you melt too little, it will fall apartGood Luck!!
Q: How do you control the fly population in your house? (besides just not opening the door?)?
I've answered this question several times today, as have others with similar answersI didn't believe it til we did itHang quart size ziplock bags 1/2 filled with water near doors and elsewhereThe reflected light (even when not in direct sun) greatly bothers the multi-eyed fliesIt worksSome add broken bits of cd's or aluminum foil to increase reflection, we don't and have almost no flies unlike before.
Q: it is a 14 foot v-hull aluminum and has a 4.5 ft beamwhat size outbourd could i put on it to possibly go tubing and such without spliting the hull or damaging my boat?
Homeopathic and Naturopathic doctors have solutions for aluminum toxicityYou won't find a thing in conventional medicineAll they're interested in is prescribing toxic drugs to suppress symptoms, however there's nothing they've found that will help the least in AlzheimersThey don't know how to reduce or eliminate the toxicity but won't admit it.

Q: I never had problem with parchment paper catch on fire or anythingBut today, I use parchment paper to line my baking pan, leaving a little hang of parchment paper along its side so it's easier to lift my brownies right out, but then it catches on fire!!! Like what the hell, it never been a problem since I was a little girl baking, but now it literally on fireI was near my oven all the time, then I started to see excess smoke came out of my ovenI look in and something red was framing - the fire!!! I stop the oven I took the brownies out and the fire was under the brownies (on the parchment paper beneath the brownies)What's wrong? I thought parchment paper and aluminum foil is oven safe? Does it mean that I shouldn't line my baking pan and stuff with parchment paper since then? Anyone have this similar problem? P/S: The parchment paper was not just burnt it's actually on fire!!!
Paper, wood and other things made of cellulose begin to burn at 451 F (233C)Maybe your paper touched the oven wall which was at least this temperature? It can ignite from radiant heat alsoIf it was near enough to the heating coils, or whatever generates the heat, that could have done it, especially if you had the heat turned up temporarily to try to heat the oven fastAs long as you keep all parts of the oven around the usual baking temperature it should be fineI had the same problem when I tried to dry a chunk of wood too fast by raising the oven temperature too highThe edges dried first and the high temperature ignited the wood.

Get a copy of Terminator - Rise of the Machines for Xbox 360Put your Xbox in a carboard crate covered in aluminum foil, along with a small bowl of water and dry icePut a jacob's ladder on top, or maybe one of those plasma ball thingsGet an old Dish Network antenna, spray paint it silver, stick a laser in the middle and point it at a big X painted on the ceilingMake sure to put plenty of knobs, switches and goofy, randomly flashing lights and LEDs on the front of the crateLeave holes for the CO2 vapors to stream outTell the judges you've invented a Timescope and it's currently tuned to Los Angeles 2020AD, showing the future of humanitywhen a judge points at the screen and says, But that's Arnold Schwarzenegger!, just let your eyes go round, look terrified and nod your head as if you know something about Governor Schwarzenegger that they don'tYou'll need to practice that part with a mirrorYou won't win for the timescope, but your program for making the lights on the aluminum foil covered box flash randomly will knock 'em clean over, and assure you a victory.
