The salesman pays a set price but is free to charge as much or little as he thinks he can get. They usually start asking for about $1600. They are not worth it. Neither is Rainbo. A Royal Commercial is very similar to the Kirby but in my opinion better made. And half the price. If you want a good vacuum go to a janitorial supply. Be prepared though. They still are not cheap. But Commercial will last and do a better job. I can't stand Kirby.

Q:Do they actually increase the amount of suction or are they simply a marketing ploy we have all fallen victim to?: We bought a Dyson and that sucker works! Never lose suction and removes dirt better than any other vacuum we have compared it to.
