Q: I have bought a new house and have noticed that the plaster walls have been plainted with water based paint without being sealed. I would now like to repaint and change the colour, how is the best way to do this? Should I apply a sealer over it, or just give it a couple of coats with some good paint?
Firstly .. i can safely assume that the walls have been painted before as even if its a new build , the developer would have given them a couple of coats at least before putting the property on the market ...if the walls are sound and have no imperfections then just paint over them with your choice of covering ,staring at the top ( use a small brush to cut in at the corners etc ) ... work your way down and use a large brush or roller for efficiency .The only rooms in the flat that might need a bit of prep are the bathroom and kitchen ... grease on the walls will repell paint .. so it must be removed first ....trust me .. if you try to piant over it the walls will look patchy and it may even pull the paint from them thats already there ... this is where yer sugar soap will come in handy ... wipe over the surface lightly ( you'll find the top of the walls need it most as heat rises and the grease goes with it lol )..allow it to dry out then follow as before ... hope this helps
Q: Is plasterboard another name for drywall?
Yes, but Drywall or Gypsum Wall Board are the most common names. Most contractors and people in consturction business just call it Drywall. If you want to sound like you know what you are talking about you should say Drywall.
Q: Gypsum board has no formaldehyde
No Gypsum board is a very good environmentally friendly decorative materials, the main material used for the gypsum and paper, it is environmentally friendly non-toxic decorative materials, Europe and the United States the proportion of gypsum board is much higher than China, China's future interior decoration ceiling interval The proportion of gypsum board used will be greatly increased.
Q: I have just removed the tiles from my bathroom wall and it needs plasterboarding before re-tiling. I am ordering the plasterboard online but what do I do with it?! Does it stick on the wall or do you have to screw it? Don't even know what it looks like so am complete beginner!
plasterboard uaually comes in an 8 ft. x 4 ft.x 1/2 inch. sheet which you cut with a saw or a utility knife to suit the space area . screw only into 2x4 studs do not screw into lath strips. if you have lath strips on your wall, then you really don't need concrete board plaster board ( DRYWALL ) and concrete board ( DUROCK ) are usually used on walls when installing tiles either in the kitchen or on the bathroom if you are installing 4 inch tiles drywall will be good enough but you will need to use ACRYL-PRO adhesive since it is an acrylic poly blend sandless grout which will not allow water to penetrate through the tile seems. Now is the time to go to your local Home Center Store and buy a How to book , this will be the best explanation for HOW TO TILE Good Luck
Q: We have all steel frames in our house and we were wondering how to locate the framework behind the walls so we can hang up big items, like our dryer and a big mirror safely. We have tried tapping the wall to locate the frame but there is no difference in the sound.
Have you tried a stud finder? They can read metal near the surface or do a deeper scan. You can find one at any hardware store or even walmart. It will read the edges of the steel frames in the wall then you can lightly mark these readings with chalk. I am not sure how you plan on hooking fasteners into a steel frame? You may want to ask the pro at home depot or Lowes for some advice.
Q: What is the aluminum plate? What place to use it, and what is different from the gypsum board
Aluminum slab plate is the ceiling material, mainly used in the top of the kitchen, there are used in the balcony or other shapes, is the metal, there is a certain water resistance, so used in the kitchen, the current majority of the aluminum plate is a square, There are stripes, a lot of patterns, the color is also a lot, you can mix with the market, the integrated ceiling is the aluminum plate, as well ...
Q: we want to put up hooks to hold the rod for curtains, but aren't sure what screws to use to keep the hooks in place. also, i'm thinking it might be plaster, but what are the options to use to help the screws stay firmly in the wall? the last time i tried this on a wall, the screws ended up coming out of the wall later and it was easy to just pull them out. any helpful advice is greatly appreciated.
Jeff' has the right answer, there is also this new epoxy called green glue. It comes in tubes that fit in glue guns like liquid nails. The draw back is that it too is expensive about $225 a case of twelve. Good Luck Moskie257

Q: Hi! I want to hang my electric guitars on my wall which is made of plasterboard! Each guitar with have it's own hanger with two screws holding it on the wall. I will also use plasterboard wall plugs to hold the screws in place> I am just wondering if the walls will be able to support the weight of the guitars at all or is this going to be a disaster? Thanks all!
electric guitars are typically pretty heavy. seriouosly,, i wouldnt rely on plasterboard for the support of the weight. enlist the use of a stud-finder and using long enough screws (1 1/2 inch ) mount the guitar hook deep into the beam through the plasterboard or you may find them on the floor and broken.
