- Kaboom grout cleaner. Not tub and tile. There is to different ones. They both are very good. If you can find the Kaboom grout cleaner It will do all of it. Other wise use hot water and Just a cap full of the tub and tile cleaner from kaboom ,
- Q: Specifically wall tiles in a bathroom
- I have tiled a lot. I've used both mastic and mortar, but if you plan to use mastic make sure it's the kind for floor tiles. Next, find the center of the room. Mark a chalk line each way. Put down whatever you are going to use to adhere the tile. Place the tile. Make sure it's firmly in place, jiggle a bit but make sure it ends up square. Use the tile spacer of choice (size equals amount of grout) and repeat the process. Remove tile spacers once tile has set but not too long as it will stick too. Let tile set and then grout. Make sure you clean up the grout from the top of the tiles or it will set and ruin the tile. Follow the instructions on the grout carefully. Make sure the sponges don't have too much water in them. It sounds hard, but it's really not. Just time consuming.

- For your best adhesion. its best to start out with a clean wood sub floor. Depending on what is down now, its best to put a new luan sub floor. These you can sometimes go over whats there now and sometimes its best to rip out and start new. Always start from the middle and work to the out side. But if your tile lays out to less than a 1/2 tile, move the tile over the center line by a 1/2 tile. Now MOST peel n stick are directional so they must be layed all in one direction.. This is personal preference, but I like to have a whole tile at the doorway and what ends up in back is the way it is unless its a real small pc. Dry lay out the tiles to see what you like.. - I just retiled my kitchen floor and am in the process of doing the bathroom. Are you using the self stick type tiles? You don't have to remove the sheet vinyl if there is no damage to it. You would be best to lay the back board for a clean surface for the tiles to adhere to. If you are using the self stick tiles and don't want to lay the back board you can make the tiles stick buy applying a tile glue just a thin layer will make them connect to the floor permanent.

- I can tell you what not to use. Hee hee. I have made the mistake of using Soft Scrub with bleach. It worked great! But then the next day I realized the grout had been eaten away. I use just bleach now. Or Clorox Clean-up. And the grout is still there! Whoo hoo!
- Q: how can i tile over linolium flooring without pulling it up?
- Jim has the right idea. Lay 1/4 inch wood(called Luann or mahogany over the floor). Screw it 4 on center on the joints and 6 on center in the rest of the sheet. Cover all screws and seams with Ardex or 20 min taping compound ( comes in a bag, don't mix too mutch at one time). Tile according to manufactures recommendations.
- Q: This tile in my kitchen became loose a while ago and today I decided to try to fix it but not sure what to do. As you can see from the image link, a fair amount of concrete has come off with the tile. I suppose I can‘t re-use this tile. I have a spare one available. What I need to know is what product do I use to fill in the hole? Should I try to get out all the old concrete stuff first?
- Sockies, this is actually an easy repair. The first responder suggested liquid nails. Don't even consider that. If you have a matching tile available, use that in lieu of trying to clean off the tile. First off, it looks like the tile came loose based the non-continuous thinset on the bottom of the tile. If that is the case (which is probably the cause), you want to fill in under the tile with thinset, so the entire area where the tile sets is filled solid from the sub-floor to approx. 1/8 below the bottom of the surrounding tiles. You should remove the existing thinset where the tile will set. You can do this with a brick or masonry chisel. If a little remains at the perimeter, that will be fine. Trying to remove all of it flush with the surrounding tiles may result in loosening additional tiles. You don't want that. Allow about 5-6 hours for that to set (harden) enough to set the tile. You don't make it flush because you will spread additional thinset on the underside of the tile to set it. Use a 3/8 notched trowel to spread the thinset on the entire surface of the bottom of the tile. Place the tile keeping an even spacing from the tile to the surrounding tiles You want the grout joints to be the same size all around. Press down over the entire surface of the tile to ensure it embeds completely and is flush with the surrounding tiles. Allow it to set overnight and remove any thinset that will impede the grout from obtaining 1/4 depth. It's not necessary to make the grout the full depth of the tile. It's imperative to remove any loose grout prior to grouting. That's it. I suggest buying thinset that comes in the bag that you mix with water. Don't make it too soupy when you mix it. The thinset and grout need to (what's called) slake during the mixing process. It simply means you mix it, allow it to set 5 minutes and remix it, and it's ready to use. The bag will have those instructions on the back.
