Q: I have water damage on a ceiling tile in my basement. The water damage is on a tile on the perimiter of the room. The water damage is adjacent to the room wall. However when I pulled the tile up I was surprised that I didn‘t find the source to any water above it. There was also no water damage on the tile where the angle bracket held the tile up. The water damage on the tile started in a straight line from the edge of the angle iron. Also there appeared to be a larger brown stain on the finished underside of the tile with a much smaller slightly damp appearance on the unfinished top of the tile. I‘m wondering if this means that my water source is not above the tile but in fact moisture from the room. However all of my other tiles around this one are dry with no damage. Thanks in advance.
Check the other tiles on the perimeter for moisture along the same piece of angle.I would then look to see if any pipes run above the cieling at any point.Water will travel to a low spot then pool so the ceiling might not be entirely level,if thats the case then the water could be coming from the outside wall along the channel that holds the tile in place until it begins to rise again. There are an number of potential causes here check everything you can think of.
Q: for making cement decorative hand made cement tile there is device sometime call cookie cutter also to portrait some design is called divider
The metal frame that divides the tile into different sections is made from strips of metal carefully bent and soldered into place. I have seen steel ones and also brass mold patterns. The key to it is to have the bottom of the strips perfectly flat and level so that when you pour in the liquid cement mix, each color stays in its own compartment. See the link below to see a mold pattern and also the finished tile from it. A lot of history and more photos are on the second link.
Q: My family and i are thinking about replacing our floor tile this year and putting in something nice. How difficult is it to take out the old tile. What would I do with the tile once it is pulled up? Order a construction dumpster? And do we have to pull up the base board?I have seen it done on DIY network, doesn‘t look that difficult and seems like we could save money. And any suggestions on good looking tile that we could get cheap, maybe an outlet store. What‘s the difficulty level: beginner, intermediate or expert.
How To Pull Up Tile
Q: A family member purchased 12x12 non gloss tiles for our shower stall and I don‘t think I ever saw a shower stall with non gloss tiles. Our old tiles had gloss. Can you use non gloss tiles for the shower stall?
As long as its a glazed tile with a matte finish. These types of tiles are in fact easy to make look clean since water spots hide better on a matte finish. If your referring to an unglazed tile, sealing the tile is a must, and I suggest sealing twice before installation. Matte glazed tiles are very common. I ve installed 10x more matte glazed tile than bright glazed tiles on shower/tub walls. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q: I‘m redoing a sunroom in florida and the floor is in good condition but white textured vinyl floor tile prof laid, I want a cork tile look and wondered if there is a plastic type paint to do the job. It will not get a lot of shoe traffic. TKS.
i doubt it...i wouldn't take that risk
Q: hi friends.. we r constructing a new house.. many people say us lay tiles for floorins and many say to use marbles or granite?...so confused!!!!.. wat to do?quite big house situated quite beneath the hills.
Tile is much better suited for floors. It is harder and less likely to stain or scratch. Granite is the next best choice because it is harder than marble and less porous and likely to stain. Marble is the softer and most likely to stain. The first floor of our current house is all ceramic tile.
Q: How about daily maintenance tiles?
Tile daily maintenance and cleaning: 1, the daily cleaning of tiles can be used detergent, soap and other cleaning. 2, with soap plus a little ammonia and turpentine mixture, cleaning tiles can make tiles more shiny. 3, polished tiles should be regularly waxing treatment, the interval is 2-3 months is appropriate. 4, brick surface, such as scratches, can be applied in the scratches toothpaste, wipe with a dry cloth can be repaired. 5, brick and brick cracks can be used from time to time with dirt to remove dirt, and then in the gap brush a layer of waterproofing agent, can mold growth. 6, tea, coffee, beer, ice cream, grease and other pollutants using sodium hydroxide or potassium bicarbonate solution. 7, ink, cement and other pollutants using hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and other dilute solution. 8, paint, paint and other pollutants use special cleaning agent. 9, rust can be washed with 2% oxalic acid solution to eliminate, and then wipe with water. With 3-4 tablets of vitamin C tablets crushed into powder, sprinkled on the floor tile surface, and then scrub with water several times, but also remove the rust stains. In the case of rust, can be 10% oxalic acid, citric acid and water mixture will dip rust at the wet, and then wipe with a thick salt again. If fresh lemons can be squeezed out of its juice drops on the rust stains rubbed by hand, repeated several times until the rust stains removed, and then washed with soap and water. 10, a variety of plastic can be used to remove the banana water, pure banana water is colorless transparent volatile liquid, a strong smell of banana, slightly soluble in water, soluble in a variety of organic solvents, flammable, mainly used for painting Of the solvent and diluent.
Q: Can ceramic tile be applied over my existing formica counter tops? They are in good shape, just ugly. They are not molded, but the formica is not loose anywhere and would probably be hard to remove. Anyone have any experience with this sort of project?
I would opt to remove the old counter top and replace it. You can prepare the surface for tile but those grout lines are what bug me they get dirty because food and debris gets caught and its hard to clean them nothing like a smooth surface.
Q: I was wondering if self stick vinyl tile would work well on bathroom walls and if it would stick well to sheet rock or if i have to replace the sheetrock with plywood?
Please don't follow through with your plans. Self stick tile is not meant for walls and will be a nightmare later on for you or for another homeowner who inherits this horrible mistake you are about to make. Self stick tile will destroy the walls when time comes to remove it. And, it will also be a breading ground for moldy cracks and may fall off due to moisture in the bathroom. If you are going to go through with the expense of covering your walls with plywood, you are also going to have to remove the door and window mouldings and baseboards....so you may as well just re sheetrock and paint. Forget about putting tacky vinyl floor tiles on the walls. EDIT: something to consider: if you put a treatment on the walls and need to get to the plumbing for repairs, there will be problems with getting the wall back together to match the wall treatment. So, make sure you have extra materials to deal with repairs.
Q: I need pink ceramic 4x4 tiles to repair an old bathroom. At least 80 of them. Where might I find them?
1 st try and determine whos tile it is, this will help cut down the looking time and possibly stop your looking all together .. If you have 1 spare tile look on the back to see if there there is any lettering on the back , this I ll help you with if you need help. Measure the tile , if its 4 3/8 ths you don t need to look at Florida tile, if its 4 1/4 start with American Olean and Interceramic if the tile is 15/20 years or older.. Anything else start by going to tile distributors and tile shops taking a tile or a pc with you. Realizing that you may not get a perfect tile match because of dye lots and shading even after a couple months this can be a problem.. Any questions e mail me through my avatar and I ll be glad to help and you can check my qualifications there .. GL
