Q:Have a tiled half wall that I dont like, and as I neither know how to remove tiles or if how to drill through a tile can anyone help?: Use masonry bits in the drill. Start with a small hole and keep using larger bits to increase the size of the hole rather than trying to drill a big hole from the start. It helps to wet the end of the bit. If the hole has to be in a precise location, put a piece of masking tape up and put a mark on the tape exactly where the hole will be. The tape will help keep the drill bit in the spot where you want the hole, rather than having it skip around as it usually would do on the slick tile surface. Put the drill on a slow speed at first to get the hole started if the drill bit is trying to skip around.

Q:Do you have to rough up the old flooring ?: I tile, every day of my life, and while I'm not at all a fan of vinyl tile, you didn't state PEEL and STICK. Obviously the adhesives on Peel and Stick are inferior and as answer 1 suggests the tile can creep on any substrate. You also don't state any texture on the current tile, certainly to float anything over it is no less a task and challenge as it would be to remove the tile. For one thing a peel and stick needs almost a glass like finish for its inferior adhesive to be even modestly effective. That would relate to roughing up as well. Then there is the issue of how you might define Rough Up? I offer my opinion/ s First of all if it's peel and stick, I'd not bother, but if I bothered, my usual; course of action is a water based contact cement on both the substrate and the bottom side of the tile. That method can be used on non adhesive backed tile as well, but there are many viable/valid tile mastics on the market. A final note, no matter what tile or method you choose. DO NOT use the existing tiles as a guide to install new. If you choose to floor over though I cannot imagine doing so, you will be better served to displace seaming the new tile, (offset) at the seams, from the existing. Steven Wolf Just my two sense

Q:A week and a half a go I put eight 23 1/2‘‘ x 23 1/2 tiles on my sheetrock wall as a headboard and I can sometimes hear it crack! Will it fall?: Sheetrock is not the best base for tiles. If the tiles start to pull away, they will pull the paper face away as well. It would be best to fix a sheet of fibre-cement to the wall first. Then seal the sheet before fixing the tiles.

Q:Yesterday I bought tile from menards and they are sticky on the backs of them, my question is do I need to use other glue as well? If so what kind of glue?: Peal and stick tile need no other type of glue. If fact , another glue may react to the glue on the tile. These work best when installed on new clean ply wood surface. A surface that hasn t been sealed by other glues or other substances. Best to use a heavy roller to help embed the glue on the back of the tile into the new surface. If its on plaster, get a wide chisel and hammer away...Sometimes a 6 drywall knife works to srape off tile then you have some drywall repair- skim coating. Hopefully, for your sake, the tile is on drywall - a newer home...
