6. What's the characteristics about porcelain tiles and glazed tiles? Which one
more slippery, more aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean?
Glazed tiles are colorful, the effect is rather diverse, stain-slip, abrasion resistance but worse than the porcelain tiles. Long-term use may wear a large surface; porcelain tiles have the higher degree, long hard wear surface. Good performance and stable cleanup (before playing the best times to use the wax to improve stain resistance). The porcelain tiles are weaker performance in non-slip than glazed tiles. We should take attention on its anti-slip properties, face down in a tiled brick water testing.
7. How to choose bathroom tiles? Porcelain tiles or glazed tiles?
Currently used in the bathroom tiles with glazed tiles (mainly from price considerations, some high-end can choose tiles, notice to choose tiles), divided into Shinny and Matt two kinds. Light color makes people feel shinny, but the bathroom more appropriate to create a warm feeling, so the best choose is uses matte, the shinny feels more soft and not dazzling.
- Q:I have a black and white tile floor, and most everything that I have tried has left it very slick even after it is dried. Does anyone know of any homemade product to clean it? I am also willing to try comercial products also. I am tired of my family slipping.
- Sounds like it probably has a wax finish on it? If so you can go to Lowes or Home Depot and get floor stripper. OR you can try to put comet in your mop water. I would think maybe something like vinegar and water would clean it and disinfect, but take away any slippery residue.
- Q:For some reason I‘m having a hard time finding a good DIY instruction page on how to remove floor tile. Half of them are about removing just one damaged tile and the rest all have different methods. Some say to place a towel on top of it and smash with something, others have different machines. I‘m not really sure where to start. The space is about 5‘ x 5‘ and the tiles are the tiny kind, like 1 sq. inch each. What tools do I need? Do people usually tile underneath wooden vanities? Will I have to take it up? Help!
- I am assuming the tile is on a wooden sub-floor based on the under the vanity question. If so take a hammer to it. The tiles should come up fairly easily. the hard part is getting the thin set cement underneath to come up. Try a scrapper with a 4 razor blade to get that up. try wetting it first. If it turns out to take too long and you find it difficult to get the thin set up, consider renting a roto-chipping hammer to get it up. It's about $35 a day to rent. If this is an older home, the tile will be in a cement base up to 1 1/2 thick (with a wire mesh) and you'll want to get the rotohammer then. If the tile is on a concrete slab intead of wooden sub-floor get the rotohammer. Hope this helps
- Q:I‘m installing new tile in my bathroom and had a few questions.1. I understand that I‘m supposed to remove the toilet prior to laying the tile. So I remove the toilet, lay new tile, and then put the toilet on top of the tile? Does this mean that the toilet will sit on the tile? If so, won‘t there be a very little gap where the tile and toilet meet? Are you supposed to seal this gap? Or, do you cut the tile around the shape of the bottom of the toilet and tile around it?2. Same question with the vanity. I‘m replacing my old vanity. Do I have to remove the old vanity, lay tile in the whole area where the old vanity was, and then install the new vanity on top of the tile? Again, what about the small gap? Does it need to be sealed? What do you seal it with?3. How do you remove the old vanity? Do you simply disconnect the plumbing, remove the screws holding it to the wall, and pry it from the wall?Any comments, suggestions, or advice are appreciated.
- I should point out, that it is not recommended to caulk around the base of the toilet. this is because, if the wax seal were ever to start leaking, the caulk would contain it under the toilet and you would never know it was leaking until the floor rotted and you and the toilet fall through into the living room. No body wants to see that!!
- Q:a few tiles are cracked near the sink. How can i fix it temporarily ( is it worth it?) or should i replace the tiles or the whole thing? how would i go about doing that?
- You need to chip out the grout and cracked tile, and replace them, if you can find an exact match, otherwise replace them all on that side, then you can either match it to the other side or use another color, or style, like if you have four inch tiles on the remaining side, use subway (rectangular) tiles on the sink side. or go for an checkerboard with square tile in white and an accent color.
- Q:Im applying going for a pre apprenticeship next month and I‘m not sure which one to choose from, electrician or wall and floor tiling? I think electrician pays more but you need to be a bit smarter the I am and I‘m afraid I won‘t do well. Or I could just to.. You know tiling not that hard. - Q:I want to know how to make tile based map in java. Retro games used tiled maps (to ease programming and memory management) but those games were created in assembly language. I know basic java. Now I want to make a 2d game in java, starting with a pretty basic 2d platformer type or top-down type. To do this, i need to know the technique required to make a map, a tile map.I have already searched in google and youtube and stack overflow, but none helped much. What I learnt is that I have to make some tile object and make a 2 dimensional matrix to store position of particular tiles. But this does not helped much. Thank you.P.S. there are many programs available on the internet for making tile maps, and also there are game making softwares and also libraries. i do not want to use any of those since i want to make my game with whatever java provides. - first of all, you need to build different densities of 2D tile arrays according to how much of the map will be in the viewport at any given time. For example, a map at neighborhood level will need a gazillion more tiles than a map at the county level. Then, you need a way of converting the geographic reference at the center of the viewport to the tile that is covered at that zoom level, and for finding the adjacent tiles as well. Then, you'll need to calculate what parts of which tiles you are using will need to be clipped and by how much. Build a canvas using this information. As the map moves, you'll need to add on more adjacent tiles, and discard others, update the clipping, etc.
- Q:How to convert tiles how much money a square meter?
- Tiles are generally quoted according to the block, to be converted into square meters of the price you need to calculate the area of each brick (unit: square meters), and then the price of each tile divided by the area of each tile (unit: square meters) You can get the price per square tile. For example, 800mm * 800mm tile is 100 yuan a piece, each tile area is 0.64 square meters, so the price per square meter is: 100 / 0.64 = 156.25 (yuan / per square meter), and so on. Tiles, living room is generally 800mm * 800mm or 600mm * 600mm, kitchen and toilet generally 300mm * 300mm or 300mm * 450mm, then 800mm * 800mm brick, converted into rice is 0.8m * 0.8m, then 800mm * 800mm brick is 0.8 Meter * 0.8 meters is equal to 0.64 square meters, 600 * 600 brick is 0.36 square meters, 300 * 300 brick is 0.09 square meters, 300 * 450 is 0.135 square meters.
- Q:I laid a new porcelain tile floor in my bathroom. Old linoleum tile floor was in good shape so I just laid right over the top of it. All turned out well except around the toilet. Two of the tile cracked when I screwed the toilet back down to the floor. Obviously I‘ll have to pull the toilet again, remove cracked tiles and start over....but how to I avoid the cracks again?
- Did you put a bead of plumber's putty on the bottom of the toilet prior to installing it? Porcelain toilet to ceramic tile needs cushion between them. Buy some plumber's putty and roll out a worm shape. Place it on the bottom of the toilet and keep doing this until the entire outter rim is covered. You know, by removing your toilet you will need to install a new wax seal, never re-use the old one.
- Q:I am looking at putting the self stick vinyl tiles in my new addition. It has a concrete floor and I was wondering if the vinyl will have a hard time sticking to the concrete. Do I need some type of sub-floor? I am wondering this mainly because we live in iowa were is can get pretty cold in the winter and I didn‘t know if that would affect the stickyness.
- Self stick tiles commonly loosen from subfloors, concrete or wood. They can be installed successfully over concrete but it is absolutely vital that your concrete be smooth and very, very clean. If you are concerned about adhesion it would be wiser to use glue down vinyl tiles which aren't much more expensive, rather than build a very expensive wooden subfloor which wouldn't guarantee the integrity of peel and stick tiles.
- Q:I am wondering which tile will be easier to clean, polished or non polished? My hub and I are remodeling the bathroom and we are in the stage of deciding of tiles for the shower wall and bathroom floor.
- Polished tile is easier to clean, but does show scuff marks more. Polished tile also shows soap film more. Unpolished tile is currently more in style, but styles change so fast that polished tile could be back in vogue within 10 years. Personally, I prefer polished tile in a bathroom, myself. The grout is a pain in the anatomy to keep clean, regardless...so, it hardly matters which tile cleans easier. Just go for whichever tile you like best. -
