- We re trying to install a ceiling mounted storage unit into our condo s garage and could also not find the ceiling joists. We called out builder and he said since it s a condo with living space above the garage there are three layers of Sheetrock for fire proofing, so we would need to use 3 nails and hit them up into the ceiling until we find a joist. A stud finder will not work in this instance. Suffice it to say we gave up on that project. :-(
- Q:the fabric lining my jeep's ceiling is missing in the front of my car. came down in bits and pieces and i wasn't able to reattach it. there's a material underneath that looks something like yellow fiberglass??? is that right? is it safe to be exposed to this? i don't use the car much so i haven't had it fixed yet but i'd like to know what i'm dealing with here. thanks for any help!
- your board is probably fiberglass but the material your seeing will be the old foam rotting away,you have to remove the entire board and clean it and get a new piece back up ,when new that came with a 1/4 inch foam backed material but over the years it deteriorates and falls down ,that's the only way to repair it right and make it look good,the new material cost about 12 bucks a yard and is about 54 inches wide so you,ll need about 3 yards at least to do this with and at least 3 cans of glue,glue both sides ,the board side and the material side then bond them together,and reinstall it and your done,this will cost you about 50 bucks to do this one,good luck.

I wanted texture on the walls but didn't want to deal with the mess (and expertise required) of spray texture, so I'm creating a custom texture on the walls by hand using lite joint compound and a 12" taping knife. My question is: what do I do on the ceilings? Can I do the same thing on the walls, or will I kill my back (especially if it needs sanding). I've heard of people wrapping a small piece of plywood in plastic and using it to apply joint compound to the ceiling such that it creates little stalactites that you knock down after they have hardened slightly. That sounds difficult to get uniform across the entire ceiling.What should I do?
- I just finished painting my family room. Same thing - heavy texture on ceiling and walls. The tape does not work. I like a sash brush - 1 1/2 tapered. My favorite is the oval shape sash brush which I can't seem to find new anymore - but I have some old ones. - Don't know about plastic, but there are plastic wrapped & melamine coated tiles which are used in hospital OR.s & labs since they are non porous & can be scrubbed. Some have gaskets along the edges which seal them to the grid to seal out dust. Probably not something from a home center but a big builder's supplier might special order them.
