THE TILES HAVE A WAFFLE BACK. MY CONCERN IS DO I HAVE TO FILL IN THE WAFFLE DEPRESSIONS,WHICH SEEM TO BE 1/16 DEEP,BY BACK BUTTERING PRIOR TO APPLYING TILE TO COMBED MASTIC. ALSO, IS THE TROWEL SIZE CORRECT?P.S. WHY DO SOME TILES HAVE A WAFFLED BACK AND SOME A PRACTICALLY FLAT BACK? THANKS!: Yes the trowel you have is the correct one for a mastic. And you have 2 options, spread some mastic and set a tile to see how the coverage is after you remove the tile. Set in place and give a gentle twisting motion, remove tile and if you have 80% coverage or better you good to go.If not you ll have to back butter the tile .. I can t tell you any other way because I don t know just how deep the pattern is.. As to why they have the waffle pattern, it foe a couple reasons.. One is for body strength after a glue or thin set fills this void. The other is an identifying type mark .. I can tell different tiles by their pattern at times.. Q: Please help me decide the right color to use. We are renovating our bathroom and I always wanted a navy blue or maroon toilet bowl. Q: I am in the process of tiling my bathroom, now that I have the 12 X 12 tiles on the floor and nearly done with them, I need to do the walls behind the toilet sink and cabinet. My question is, how far do I have to move the toilet flange (pipe) forward so the new tiles will not interfere. The toilet sits right on the wall. I used 1/2 backerboard, and I am using a 4x4 tile and thinset to mix and hold it together.: tricky aspect. look with google. this could help!

Q: I just cant figure it out i must have wasted 10 pieces of tile trying the tile that is currently laid on the floor..it hasnt been cut at all to get it to fit..and its not two pieces..its one piece of tile that has 2 circles cut into it that fit perfectly that looks like the radiator was picked up and the legs placed into the holeshow do i do this? i know you are SUPPOSED to cut the tile in half and them put it back together..but..im just curious if there is a way im not thinking about??: Car jack lift the rad a little and pop tile under.

Plus you'll only be able to have a solid color instead of these beautiful stone tiles that are becoming more popular. Better to wait until you have the money to spend on nice tiles.
