And also with the lip, is it more like the tongue with what foods you can eat and how hard it is to eat?: Everyone is different as far as what piercings they think hurt more or less, but based on my own experience, I'd say the scaffolding hurt more by far. Now, I've never had my lower lip pierced, but I had my upper lip area (I used to have angel bites), so I'd image it would have to be similar to the lower lip as far as pain, care, healing. As far as cleaning them, it's like most other piercings, where the best thing for you to use is warm sea salt water. But although everyone's different, the lip is going to be the faster healing of the two I'd say for basically anyone. The scaffolding takes up to a year to fully heal. The lip heals relatively fast;usually anything involving your mouth area heals quicker than other areas of the body-I'm sure you noticed how your tongue healed fast. Or even if you accidentally bite or cut anything involving your mouth, tongue, inside of your cheeks, etc., it heals faster than other areas. As far as the foods other aftercare with it, it is somewhat similar to your tongue in caring for it-just follow your piercer's instructions you'll be fine. Good luck!

Q: Okay so I got a scaffold piercing about 5 days ago now. I've been cleaning it with Claire's piercing stuff. What I do is I pour it onto a little bit of loo roll and squeeze it all out on where the holes are. I have not been twisting it at all, but my friend told me that I should soak it in warm salty water and twist it twice a day. I have no idea what to do now as I have researched it and some people say that I shouldn't twist it because it will drag more bacteria into it and could get it infected. Also I have massive scabs around both ends of the bar, I've tried to pick them off as they are pretty uncomfortable, but it didn't work as they are rock solid, so how do I get these off? I have no idea what to do, my piercer didn't say anything about twisting it just cleaning it twice a day. Oh and if it helps I'm 13:) Thanks. X: Why are you using Claire's crap? You need to be doing sea salt soaks twice a day for 5-10 minutes each soak with 1/4th of a teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt to 8oz of hot water. Don't twist them as that drags in crust and bacteria and tears up the inside of the piercing. Stop trying to pick stuff off from your ear and go have a reputable piercer check out the scabbing, it could be crust it could be something wrong. If your piercer didn't tell you to do sea salt soaks to keep it clean go to a better piercer.

I just retired it a few weeks or so ago after waiting for it to heal for 13 months. They usually take between 6 and 12 months to heal. It never healed completely. I got keloids on the inside and outside of both holes and they looked absolutely terrible. I was actually embarrassed when people asked to see my piercing. I couldn't sleep or use the phone or use headphones on that side of my head. Changing the jewelry to titanium only made it worse (and titanium usually does wonders in my piercings). It was the most finicky and miserable piercing I have ever had. Mine was not done with one needle. That is an improper piercing technique. The second hole does hurt like heck, though. Also, don't over-clean it. Twice a day is sufficient. Sea salt soaks are amazing, too!
