Q: Hi guys, I'm about to tile my bathtub surround and have some questions regarding moisture barriers. I already have the 1/2 durock cement board and 6 mil plastic sheeting. Before I put up the plastic sheeting on the studs, I wanted to double check to see what people thought was a better moisture barrier... Redgard painted directly onto the cement board or the 6 mil heavy duty plastic sheeting attached to the studs. If you pick one over the other, can you tell me why? Is there a difference in how well each one will protect from long term moisture problems? It would be nice to hear the pros/cons to Redgard vs the plastic sheeting.I'm debating whether or not I should just go buy some Redgard and leave my plastic sheeting for another purpose. But if they both offer the same long term protection, then I'm happy just sticking with my plastic sheeting since it will save me a trip to the store and I am more familiar with that as a moisture barrier.: The problem with using a paint-on barrier like Redgard is that if you miss a spot or if there are any breaks in the application, you have an entry point for moisture. Plastic sheeting on the other hand, is continuous and will seal uniformly unless there's a breach in it such as a cut or puncture. I would think the plastic sheeting would be easier to apply. That would be my choice.

Q: Can plastic sheets be used for greenhouse insulation?: Yes, plastic sheets can be used for greenhouse insulation. They are often used as a cost-effective option to retain heat and provide insulation in greenhouses.

Q: Is there a glue that can seal/bond 2 thin (about 30 microns or less) sheets of plastic together, the same EXACT way that they would seal/bond if the same 2 sheets were heat sealed? (kinda like those food vacuum sealers): I have the same problem. I have tried melting some of the plastic and pressing it between the sheets. This only seemed to melts the sheets also. I have used Gorrilla Glue, Silicone, Super Glue and Epoxy and have had no luck. Double sided tap sorta worked but it takes a ton of it. So far the best thing I have found is just using Duct tape. It's ugly and falls off in the heat of the summer but does work temporarily. I will definitely buy an iron and try that. That seems like the best idea yet. I did visit an adhessive manufacturers website and they say there is nothing invented yet that bonds sheeting together permanently. I find this hard to believe. I have used a vacumme sealer for freezer bags and it works wonderfully on really thin plastic but the thicker sheeting I need and it has no affect on that.

Q: Are plastic sheets resistant to fire?: No, plastic sheets are not inherently resistant to fire.

Q: How do I get the protective film for the kraft paper on the plastic board?: That kind of protective film only tear slowly, there is no other way. We do stickers plastic boards, customers also have this reflection, can not be solved.

Q: i'm in ireland and don't know where to buy it: Any large DIY store, or farmers in your area may have spare from baling time. Thinking on it , won't you get it at Woodies?

Q: the dots are throughout the entire sheet which allow one to make straight lines when a blank sheet is placed over the plastic grid sheet. 1st time I seen one was in FLORIDA when a cabinet designer was laying out a kitchen and was makin straight lines without a ruler I asked him how he was able to do that an he showed me what I described above. can any1 help it will make my job alot easier.: There are cutting mats that are used for cutting fabric that may suit your needs. Look for something that is self healing. They have a large grid pattern mark on the surface.
