The needle hurts less, is sterile (where a gun can't be sterilized), and the piercer has lots of experience and will use the right length of jewelry for YOUR anatomy. Mine didn't hurt much..the second hole was definately worse then the first though. It may be sore for months afterwords, they take a year to heal. The one I've had for 3 years still gets sore although it's fully healed.

- How much it hurts depends on your pain tolerance...it's different for everyone. I didn't find mine to be that unbearable. The top (second) hole hurt more than the first but aside from that it was just a bit sore while healing just like all cartilage piercings. If you get it done by a reputable piercer and take care of it properly it shouldn't get infected.
