Q:Hi all, I currently have a moen faucet set 3 piece set model 4570 in my bathroom.. My daughter being fearfull that she didn't want the faucet to drip has now turned the cold lever all the way back until now the handle rotates without shuting the water off. I believe I have to replace the stem inside the handle but I can't remove it off the base of the sink. I can't loosen the locking nut underneath the sink either (even with trying to use basin wrench).. I saw the installation instructions online and from the diagram it shows I can acutally remove the hub from the top by holding the handle and twisting the hub if the opposite direction, but this thing won't bulge. what should I do?: unhook all the plumbing fron underneath. Take the whole sink off the vanity and tackle it that way. It is pretty tough sometimes to get the necessary leverage when trying to access everything from underneath. Might be a bit more labor intensive but it will certainly save you some busted knuckles and bruises on your head.

Q:I have tried a basin wrench, a socket wrench, an adjustable wrench... I have used heat, I have used WD-40, I have used a hammer and a flat head screwdriver to try and loosed the nut and bolt. Can anyone give me some advice on how to get these nuts off so I can change out the faucets?: The fasted way to remove to these nuts is to drill holes in the nut itself. You will need a variable speed drill and a drill bit which is larger than the nut itself. Drill 4 holes directly opposite each other where the nut meets the supply shank. Use a screwdriver and hammer and tap and twist the washer where the holes were drilled . The nut sections will seperarate and easily fall off. Be sure to wear safety glasses for eye protection while working overhead. Metal shavings are extremely sharp.

Turn off the water under the sink at the shutoff valve. Remove the faucet handle, then the valve stem(usually some kind of nut holds it on),then the seat and spring. Hold a cup upsidedown over the now open resivoir and have the second person turn the shut off valve ever so gently so the water flows at a manageable rate, hits the cup and goes down the basin. Second, go back to the hardware store and get a basin wrench. That is a special tool made for taking that pesky nut off in the tight spacing. They are not expensive and beat the heck out of bashing your knuckles trying to get another tool in there. Much less frustrating also! And while you're working under then, wear safety glasses if you don't wear glasses to protect your eyes from getting rust, rust with WD-40 in them. When you crack that nut loose, there will be all kinds of particulate material raining down. You don't need to get something in your eye and scratch your eye either!
