- Q: I have an old house and vapors are coming up registers! New heat/air cond. system.I have had vents cleaned twice. same thing happened with old furnace! Is it worth the cost to replace vent system when we may sell home in a year or so! And they may tear it down for the property? Is it really expensive! Thank you everyone!
- Yes, definitely have it replaced, you need to do this for your own health #1. and also if you sell it , its going to have to be replaced anyway. you did mention that they might tear it down , but you can't play with your health, its totally worth it at any price.

- Q: My heating unit has not been working and I finally got someone out today to take a look at it. Basically, there's a hole in the unit. If I replaced the whole unit, will my homeowner's policy cover this?
- Hi, sorry about your furnace. But no, your homeowners will not cover it. I'm guessing it is a hot air furnace and there is a hole in the heat exchanger and they red tagged it. Depending on the mfg. they are usually warranted for a number of years. Some 1, 10, 20 yrs. or lifetime if you are the original owner. But in some cases they are pro rated after a set amount of years. And out of the 1st year you are responsible for some if not all of the labor, which is also pro rated. - Q: 7000 lb/hr of aniline is to be heated from 100F to 150F by cooling 10000 lb/hr of toluene with an initial temperature of 185F in 2by 1 inch. IPS double pipe hairpin exchanger 15ft long. pressure drop of 10psi is allowable and a dirt factor of .005 is required.what is the final dirt factor.
- You have to calculate the heat duty from the amount of heat it takes to heat the 7000 pounds of aniline from 100 to 150 degrees F. Without the heat duty you can not calculate the final temperature of the toluene. You should be able to get the information you need in terms of specific heat online.
- Q: I don't have a hot water heater, the hot water comes directly from the furnace. The pressure from the cold side of the faucets is fine, but terrible from the hot side. This is all the faucets in the house. Help please? Thanks in advance.
- I'm guessing you have some sort of boiler system. Have you tried draining it out at all? Many times it can get clogged with sediment and other deposits that can clog up the system. The hot water may be under pressure so be very careful. If you don't know how to do it, call a professional or call a friend that can do it for you.
- Q: My wife and I are looking at this house that has solar heating and I just want to know a little more about how it all works. The house I'm guessing has solar panels on the roof. In the basement has what a peers to be a regular water heater, next to it is what I think is a solar water heater, it says something like quot;electric solar storage.quot; Their are also rechargeable batteries in a different room. they look like car batteries, in a different room their is some kind of small engine that has battery hookups. Plus the solar panels create heat through its own system of ventilation through the house I think. Things I would like to know is how all this works, how long it last. P.S. Would their be a normal gas or electric furnace that operates with the solar unit?
