Q:How are steel coils processed and treated?
Steel coils are processed and treated through a series of steps to ensure their quality and suitability for various applications. The process begins with uncoiling the steel coil, which involves removing the outer layers of protective wrapping and unwinding the coil. Once uncoiled, the steel is inspected for any defects, such as cracks or uneven surfaces. Next, the steel coil goes through a cleaning process to remove any dirt, oil, or rust present on its surface. This is typically done using a combination of chemical cleaning agents and mechanical scrubbing. After cleaning, the coil is rinsed and dried to prevent any residual moisture from causing corrosion. Once cleaned, the steel coil can undergo various treatments depending on its intended use. One common treatment is pickling, which involves immersing the coil in an acidic solution to remove impurities and scale. This process helps to improve the surface finish and prepares the steel for further processing. After pickling, the coil may be subjected to cold rolling, a process that reduces its thickness and improves its dimensional accuracy. Cold rolling involves passing the steel through a series of rollers at room temperature, gradually reducing its thickness and increasing its strength. This process also improves the surface finish of the steel coil. In some cases, the steel coil may undergo additional heat treatment processes, such as annealing or tempering. Annealing involves heating the coil to a specific temperature and then slowly cooling it, which helps to relieve internal stresses and improve its mechanical properties. Tempering, on the other hand, involves reheating the coil to a lower temperature and then cooling it rapidly. This process enhances the strength and toughness of the steel. Once the desired processing and treatments are complete, the steel coil may be coated or painted to provide additional protection against corrosion or to enhance its aesthetic appearance. Coating processes can include hot-dip galvanizing, electroplating, or applying organic coatings such as paint or powder coatings. Finally, the processed and treated steel coils are typically cut into specific sizes or shapes based on customer requirements. This can be done using various cutting methods such as shearing, slitting, or sawing. Overall, the processing and treatment of steel coils involve a combination of cleaning, pickling, rolling, heat treatment, coating, and cutting processes. These steps are carefully carried out to ensure the quality, strength, and suitability of the steel for its intended applications.
Q:I work with stainless steel a lot and I know it's rust resistant but it's definitly not STAIN resistant. You might be able to remove some stains easier from it than you can from some other surfaces but when it does stain, its hard as heck to clean it. It takes forever to scrub stains off my stainless steel pans so maybe it should just be called rustless steel?

Q:What are the different types of steel coil finishes used in architectural applications?
There are several types of steel coil finishes commonly used in architectural applications. These include mill finish, galvanized finish, painted finish, and stainless steel finish. Mill finish refers to the natural appearance of steel after it has been processed, which typically has a smooth, matte surface. Galvanized finish involves coating the steel with a layer of zinc to provide corrosion resistance. Painted finish involves applying a coat of paint to the steel surface, offering both protection and aesthetic appeal. Lastly, stainless steel finish involves using a steel alloy with a high percentage of chromium, resulting in a shiny and corrosion-resistant surface.
Q:what does steel have inside of it that makes it rust.I need the answer fast!!!!!!!!!
Oxygen in the air reacts to Iron particles in steel to form Iron Oxide (commonly known as rust).
Q:How does the thickness of a steel coil affect its applications?
The thickness of a steel coil affects its applications by determining its strength, durability, and versatility. Thicker steel coils are typically stronger and more resistant to bending or deformation, making them suitable for heavy-duty applications such as construction projects, automotive manufacturing, and infrastructure development. Thinner steel coils, on the other hand, are more flexible and easier to shape, making them ideal for applications that require intricate designs or a lightweight material, such as in the production of electronics, household appliances, or packaging materials. Ultimately, the thickness of a steel coil plays a crucial role in determining its suitability for specific applications based on the desired strength, flexibility, and weight requirements.
Q:so my parents gave me stainless steel cookware for christmas and the first time i used it i cooked chicken. it stuck to the pan and where the oil splattered it cooked on and turned it dark black and brownish. and the bottom too. i don't cook with it because i don't want to burn it on anymore but i don't know how to clean it. how do i cook without burning anything, aside from a lower flame and how on earth do i get the stains on. i've tried almost everything too! thanks.
Dear pwrgrlmanda, I also use stainless steel. I have found the best way to clean any cookware that has food baked or cooked on it is by filling my sink with the hottest water possible, submerging the entire piece of cookware in the sink and then liberally sprinkling cascade powder over the top. Allow it to set overnight and usually in the morning everything will come off with a nylon scrubber. It really works! No more elbow grease. This also works for corning ware, glass baking pans, cookie sheets etc. Hope it works for you.
Q:Can steel coils be coated with self-cleaning materials?
Yes, steel coils can be coated with self-cleaning materials. These materials, typically hydrophobic or photocatalytic coatings, can help prevent the accumulation of dirt, grime, and other contaminants on the surface of the steel coils. This not only maintains the aesthetic appeal of the coils but also reduces the need for frequent cleaning and maintenance.
Q:So I'm looking for some decently priced black motorcycle boots that have steel toes (and any additional protection) and look good in jeans. Pretty simple. Any recommendations?
You don't need steel toes in a motorcycle. The top of the foot isn't where the danger comes from when injured in a motorcycle accident. Where you need the most protection is in the ankle and heel. The ankle twists and the heel and calf bang on the ground. You need some protection at the toes, but that is from the road impacting the toes and grinding against the boots as you slide. Any boots made for motorcyclists will do. Stay away from steel toed work boots - they are designed for a job site, not a motorcycle crash.
Q:Why does steel with several composites have a greater hardenability from quenching than low carbon steel alloys?Any help would be great
Bit tricky to explain and I don't know muh about it but steel on its own has lost of gaps in it ( the molecular structure) and when carbon is added thos gaps are filled, I think of it like this: it is easier to punch through expanded polystyrene( with all the little balls) than unexpanded(just a lump of plastic) as the balls are not properly joined and have air pockets between them.
Q:Can steel and/or stainless steel turn rusty ?
Three answers you have stated that stainless steel doesn't rust. That isn't solely true, because there is one type that doesn't rust is often used on marine products such as yachts rigging's etc its' the 316 grade 304 302 301 do actually rust big time! Cheers!!
