- Q: About a week ago I tried to put up curtains in my bedroom..and failed due to a hard plastic/metal wall "behind" my plaster wall. Not knowing what to do I try to hammer a screw into the wall, which literally broke a piece of plaster off my wall. How can I get this curtain rod up?
- Go to any hardware store, NOT HOME DEPOT OR LOWE'S, and buy some plastic wall anchors. Ask a clerk for the proper size. Drill the proper size hole for the size you chose, and pound them in. Use screws, also to match the size of anchors. to attach the brackets. I have plaster all through my house, and some very heavy drapes. Never had any problems with the wall anchors.

- Q: I just moved into our first house. I mostly work graveyards so I usually sleep during the day. We put up some curtains that blocks out the outside light which mostly helps keep the room dark. However, along the side edges of the curtains, they dont sit flat with the wall so light comes through those edges. Is there something I could use to help stick the curtain edges to the wall without ruining the curtains or the paint on the wall? Right now Im using painters tape, but it looks tacky and would like to find something that isnt so obvious.
- You could try making little rolls of painter's tape--Pull off 3 inches, and roll it back on itself like a ring shape and stick that along the edges of the curtains underneath so it won't show. Another idea is to extend the curtain rod out a little farther on the wall on each side of the window (My son did this; worked like a charm!) And lastly, try 3M poster tapes. Be sure to follow the directions of rubbing the spot with rubbing alcohol before applying the tape. My daughter's roommate didn't follow that instruction and her posters were down by the next day. My daughter used the rubbing alcohol, and her posters stayed up all year. Good Luck!
- Q: I am planning my wedding reception in an old stage/theater type venue. The only problem is that my colors are pink and gold, and the stage area (which is prominent) has the typical stage curtains and theyre red. Everything else in the venue is neutral except those curtains.I know i could probably work them in, change my colors, or just ignore them, but Id rather not. I had thought about draping fabric over them, but anything except organza gets pricey (Im on a tight budget) and organza is see through. Any ideas?
- Can the stage curtains be pulled back so you can't see much of them? If so, it might be relatively cheap to buy some broadcloth to cover them with. It isn't fancy, but it is cheap and comes in every colour there is. One panel of something fancier hung in front of the broadcloth might dress it up a little.
- Q: okay so i am living in this apartment and i am having trouble with my curtain hanging situation. I have concrete walls and i cant get the screw in the wall to hold a bracket. i looked a few things up and i just dont think double sided tape will hold them up. i need some help! I also heard about the blutack or something like that but i dont think that will work either. HELP!
- Found some stuff in the craft department to stick things on the wall that would not ruin the wall, is removable and holds up to 5 or 10lbs depending on which size you buy. Think it was a 3 M product. I like the duct tape idea also. The Duct Tape Guys web site is hilarious and they have a use for duct taping everything.

- Q: I am in the lower level room of a duplex, and there is a cathedral ceiling above me, broken in half by the banister/split level. Its about 10 or 11 feet across, and 10 feet high. I just want a simple track to put a curtain up that is heavy velvet (like a stage curtain). So, there is no window involved.
- I would buy a long piece of velvet from a fabric store so that the measurements are exactly what you want, then string a very thick gauge wire across the area, and use clips or rings with clips like this.. .curtain-rod-drapery-hardwar... I like the combo of the industrial look of wire with the elegance and heavieness of the velvet. Also, if you need to move it, it will slide very easily across the wire.

- I would definitely not use green because being opposite red on the color wheel, it will tend to jump out at you. I would suggest a shade of red. Also whites and grays will harmonize with pink because they are neutral.
