- Q: My boyfriend and I are moving into a cute little apartment this summer. Its very plain though, so i was looking to add a little "oomph" with placing curtains on the wall behind our bed. I was something lightweight and flowy. The only problem is that I cant find cute affordable curtains that are long enough, does anyone have any suggestions. Or if you have suggestions on how to hang them up, that would be great. Thanks
- Get two scones with holes so you can pass the fabric through it. Space and fix them on the wall according to the size of your bed. Buy some inexpensive sheer kind of fabric that would be soft and can pass through the holes. There is no stitching involved here. You just have to hang the fabric in an imaginative way or just plain old style of a semi circle in the center and the two sides falling. An Indian Saree would be good too. And wallah!!! you not only get the curtains but also a good head board for your bed.
- Q: The part above my window where my curtains should hang is solid textured brick...My drill cant break through it. I thought about getting a more powerful drill but i dont want to damage the appearence. Is there a different way for me to mount them?
- depending on the weight of the rod and fabric? and the amount of brackets? you may be able to get a few blocks of 1 inch thick wood and secure them to the brick using Liquid nails...let dry then secure the brackets to the wood small pine blocks may split when screwing the screw in... the bigger the block the less chance of splitting..if its a long curtain rod add a bracket in the middle

- There are a few things you could do other than curtains.. you will have a fortune wrapped in curtains to cover an 18 foot wall from ceiling to floor & wall to wall. Option #1 - I use a vinyl wallpaper to cover paneling. I say vinyl because it is much thicker than regular paper. And they usually have some sort of pattern or sculpture imprinted in them. You could also use those special ones, like bamboo and the grass-types. (these are kind of pricey though) But, They are extremely thick and will hide the grooved lines of the paneling. Option #2 - paint it! You can water the paint down a bit & put what we call a color wash on it (be sure to separate the paint before you add water, just in case you don't like the look... then you will have enuff paint left to go ahead & paint it out. This is your least pricey option, as a gallon of paint is average $25.
