- Q: Do products like STP work?
- if you are using a top quality gasoline like shell, it already has those additives in it. if you are not using a good quality gas (generic brands) they won't have as many or as good of additives and a periodic additive can help. yes, you can clean the injectors to a degree with an additive. i don't live close to a shell station (i get easily my best gas mileage on shell gas) so i periodically add a cleaner and it will affect the fuel economy. as for 'dry gas', there was a reason for that, but it's gone now, so it's a waste of time. the reason was that gas can get water in it and the dry gas bonds with it allowing it to be burned and keeping it from freezing in the winter. but all that was is alcohol, now that ethanol is in all gasoline, it's unnecessary.
- Q: I have a 2002 Ford Focus and it is leaking power steering fluid. Its not a bad leak. I have to re-fill it about every two weeks. I am not finacially able to take my car to a mecanic right now. A friend told me about some power steering fluid with leak stopping additives that he said would probably take care of my problem. Is it safe to use?
- Sure, just don't put anything crazy in there. Additives are made for applications like this, And your car is a pretty standard car. I've actually heard of people using raw eggs and sawdust to stop leaks, That is just not smart. But do remember, stop-leak additives are just a temporary fix.
- Q: What is a good additive to extend the life of this transmission?
- Nothing. If it's working right, no additive is needed, or they would have spec'd it from the factory. There are various products out there to stop leaks (softens seals up) but it didn't come with an additive from the factory, and I've yet to see it recommended by GM.
- Q: I bought a 00 Contour 2.5L Duratec DOHC from an auction for 500$. It was miss firing pretty bad along with a ticking sound that pretty much is a steady tick weather idle or moving. I changed the plugs and wires an d oil and filter. WA LA car runs great lots of power, but the ticking is still there. People tell me that some off these oil and fuel additives work wonders, so I put rislone in the oil today and a fuel additive as well. The valve lifter got louder. I have only driven about 5 to 7 miles since the additive. One person said its normal to get louder cause the additive thins out the oil. Is this the case if so how many miles should I drive it before changing the oil and filter again? Also if this is this case what kind of oil should I put in when I change oil again? If you think this is not the case please explain your thoughts. FYI a diagnostics computer did not show any codes regarding the lifters, in fact it showed nothing. Thanks,Josh
- Diagnostic computers do not diagnose mechanical parts. The lifters have no sensors on them to diagnose. Engine diagnostics are used to diagnose OBD problems or performance issues, not noise problems. By adding the oil additive you change the viscosity of the oil and in doing so, you alter the oiling efficiency of the motor. Get rid of the additive, and just use a good quality oil. If your lifters are making noise, oil additives are not going to do much to help it. The lifter tap is caused by a wearing out of the lifters and rockers that causes a gap between them. The oil is not going to fix that gap. Sometimes lifters can be adjusted, but often the top end of the motor just has to be rebuilt if it becomes a serious issue. Also, some vehicles have hydraulic lifters, and messing with your oil viscosity will make things much worse.
- Q: I need to know what are some negative things about additives. I know what they are and what they do.
- Because they make food do things that nature did not intend. Bread should last a day, but with additives, it can last weeks. The taste and texture of that bread that will go bad the next day is significantly better than the bread that lasts weeks. It's a compromise. If those chemicals can do that to bread, what's the long term impact on your body of consuming these products. I also avoid prepared foods (which tend to be the ones with additives). Cooking with raw ingredients limits your exposure to additives.
- Q: 1. What is the additive inverse of (x-2y) 2. What is the multiplicative inverse of (-x/2y )?
- if a is the additive inverse of b then a + b 0 The additive inverse of x-2y is 0 - (x-2y) 2y-x If a is the multiplicative inverse of b, then ab 1 Not exactly sure what you mean by (-x/2y) Assuming omitted parentheses around the denominator, the multiplicative inverse of -x/(2y) is 1/(-x/(2y)) -2y/x Interpreted per PEMDAS rules, the multiplicative inverse of -x/2y -(x/2)y is 1/[(-x/2)y] -2/(xy)
- Q: that additives make the concrete more shine and use it as afinishing levle
- I think you're thinking of two separate things. There isn't anything you can add to the concrete mix that will make it shine when it's finished. A shiny concrete floor is one that has been finished with a power trowel,( or Whirly-Bird as they're sometimes refered to). These make the floor very smooth and easy to sweep. Large home centers and big box stores often have these. Concrete color additive is a liquid or powder dye that changes the color of the concrete, but won't make it shine.
- Q: What is the proportion of ammonium chloride used as feed additive in feed?
- As animal expectorant, diuretic, oral administration of a horse 8 ~ 15g cattle 10 ~ 25g sheep 2 ~ 5g pigs 1 ~ 2g dogs, cat 0.2 ~ lg, 2 to 3 times a day
- Q: Any suggestions for a fuel additive for gasoline or diesel to improve the mileage of a vehicle?
- your question will have easily hundreds of opinions. Here's the facts from me there is not magic additive that will improve fuel mileage consistantly. By using a fuel injector addtive to clean the injectors and intakes, you will allow the engine to continue to deliver the performance and mileage it's designed for. What helps a lot is a top end decarbonization of the engine. You can use Seafoam Motor treatment for that. To see it in action, goto U-Tube and do a search for Seafoam. It looks like a 30 minute burnout, but it will break up the carbon buildup in the engine that never will get cleaned or go away on its own. it spits it out the tailpipe, and you engine will be able to breathe easier and thus get a bit more power and maybe 1-2% better mileage. I got 64 extra miles a tank for my commute by doing this. It's now a standard practice to do this every 6 months. Each oil change a bottle of Seafoam goes into the gas tank as well. And I also use a bottle in my engine oil to help loosen the crud in there, and yes I do use synthetic oil. Seafoam sounds like a snake oil, but I recommend it every single day and also use it myself. I'm not a salesperson for it, but it works and I can honestly vouch for it. best way to improve mileage though is to not drive as fast, keep excess weight out of the vehicle and keep a steady speed. fuel additives just let things go back to status quo.
