- Q: How is light transmitted?How is light scattered?
- interaction of light with matter--Transmission,Reflection,Refracti... Emission,scattering. Although light can travel through a vacuum, it can not travel through all objects. When light strikes an object, it can be transmitted, reflected or absorbed. The object is made of molecules, and each molecule has electrons, capable of jumping to higher energy levels by absorbing energy.Light passing through an object is called transmitted light. A light packet has a certain amount of energy in it according to its frequency-- the higher the frequency, the more energy. If this energy corresponds to one of the electron energy levels, the electron will absorb it and re-emit it as heat. Transparent materials, however, do not absorb the energy of the photon. Since the photon is not absorbed, it is able to pass straight through. Some materials are partially transparent, absorbing some photons and transmitting others. This will make the material look tinted, since it only passes certain colors of light. Scattering is a general physical process where some forms of radiation, such as light, sound, or moving particles, are forced to deviate from a straight trajectory by one or more localized non-uniformities in the medium through which they pass.

- Q: For a space ship, can light can be used as fuel?I mean to ask it will emit light and move forward with speed of light?
- Producing light requires an energy source. Focusing the light in one direction creates thrust in the opposite direction. The thrust is incredibly small compared to the weight of the power source. Low thrust creates low acceleration. To attain a large velocity → V = a*t, so if a is small, t must be VERY large. To stop at the end of your trip, you have to reverse the thrust halfway through the journey, thereby doubling the already centuries long trip time. (Unless, of course you use dilithium crystals as the power source.....)

Trailing far behind are incandescent lamps, which used to be common but are now rare.
