Q: I went and removed 3 ft of tiles from the side of the bath tub starting at the bottom. The tiles had the cement on it so it came off the wall exposing the wood the to the house and i saw the water damage to the wood. How do i patch up the wall? Do I use plywood and than cement it and than add the new tiles?
If I understand the problem correctly, it sounds like you have water damage inside you wall. You first need to find out what caused that damage. If you repair the wall without finding the water leak, it will happen again. If the area was dry rot and it didn't sem like there was currently water there, then it is likely safe to fix. Carefully remove tiles until you no longer see any water damage to the wood. I'm not sure what wood is there. If its plywood, replace it with a like thickness (most of the time today, they use drywall, but its a special kind that is usually green that's made for bathrooms and moist areas). Before replacing the tiles, clean them up and remove any old grout from the edges. Be careful as the tile are very brittle and break easy. There are a number of bathroom tile type caulks that can adhere the tile to the wood. I suggest going to somewhere like Lowe's or Home Depot or a similar store and ask someone in the plumbing dept or the paint dept what kind of caulk to use to attach tile to wood. Apply the tile to the wall using the caulk. Now you need to re-grout the seams. Buy grout and apply it in all the seams. Let it completely dry (read the box but most say at least 24 to 48 hrs to completely cure) then after its cured, apply grout sealer over the top of the grout seams.
Q: Dear Sir/Madami have question regarding installing tiles 30*30cm*2.5cm thick for hall and rooms my question is whats the min. and Max. cement mortar must be placed under neath tiles (i.e bond coat in between concrete slab and tile )please advice and thank for help and appreciated
If you're using ceramic tiles (very regular size and relatively smooth/even back), use a 1/4 square notched trowel, held somewhere between 45 and 90 degrees (vertical). If you're using natural stone tiles (e.g. granite, marble, slate), go for 3/8 square notched trowel and back-butter the tiles. Make sure the concrete slab is clean, sound, free of cracks and level before you start and follow the instructions for your thinset. You'll likely want to use a modified thinset which will help bond to the concrete better. If you have any doubts about the stability of your slab, consider installing an isolation membrane between the tile and slab. Schluter's Ditra system is the best of the breed for this. If you use an isolation membrane, use unmodified thinset (instead of modified).
Q: I am doing my bathroom slate and i need a bullnose tile. I special ordered it at Home Depot and now they are telling me it is discontinued. Q: We had new ceramic tiles put in the shower. The tiles are large size (12x12) and the grout line is about the width of a pencil. After a few days we noticed very thin (hairline) cracks in the grout, especially around the shower bench and the corners of the shower. The tiles are all in place. I think the contractors mixed the grout too thin. Can I just sand those areas of grout down a bit and then put new grout on top of it over those areas?
u sand out the grout that is on the wall and regrout it with properly mixed grout, and make sure you caulk it too. ive noticed some people forget to do something like that, and end up with a new shower that now has sunk into the house.
Q: Move the new home decoration for the living room floor wood or tiles hesitant, I personally prefer some of the floor, feel very warm on the grade of the feeling, and the bedroom is the floor, all the wood flooring will make home more sense of coordination, but the tiles Practicality a little higher, so clean, more durable, so under the very hesitant, ask for advice ~
If you have time to take care of the wood floor with it. The If you are lazy or tiles fit.
Q: I want to lay tile in my mobile home, and I want a cheaper alternative to wonderboard for the tile that I want to install. My home is on a concrete foundation tied down and the flooring is solid I‘m just concerned with the tile not sticking to the osb plywood. Any serious answers would be appreciated
1-1/4 thick of plywood. not osb or k3 board, but real plywood (2 layers 5/8th thick. then, when you lay your tile, use a polymer-modified thinset mortar, instead of a dry-set mortar. they have a powdered latex additive that helps it bond well to the plywood. of you look at the back of the bag it will tell you if it will stick to plywood.
Q: I wanted to remove three lines of bathroom wall tiles without distrubing other surrounding tiles. These tiles were fixed on cement around 5 months back.. now we can see cracks on these tiles (different color)..
in the tile section at homedepot they make a hand held grout saw that you can use to remove the grout from around these tiles once you do they you can gently pry up a little bit to remove the tiles, if they were set good they shouldn't come out in one piece so put something on the floor and in the tub so as not to chip anything.
Q: What is the best way to paint over brown wall tiles
After thousands of sq. ft. of tile, and thousands of gallons of paint, (not together) and with all due respect to you and others; this is kind of like a CAN I? question. Tile is essentially glass. Certainly you CAN probably paint over, but may never truly be satisfied with the result, especially over any long term. Also with no offense at all, and not needling you over a misspelling, I had to chuckle at Pinting. I've probably done a lot of that too, and in fact probably while on or over tiles. Steven Wolf
Q: My fireplace is non-working and it is made of ugly red tile that looks dirty and has pen marks on it from previous owner's kids. I want to paint it to update the look. What would Fleck Stone paint look like?
Why not buy a similiar tile from Home Depot or Lowes and do a test. If you like the results then do the fireplace. Much easier this way and if you do not like it no great loss of time and money
Q: Kitchen tiles, that are like whitish/beigish?
yes you can use tiles
