- generally insulation but it depends on what you are going to be installing it inwhen it comes to houses the insulation that you should have will be more than what is cost effective for radiant barriers There are some very affordable reflective coated insulations but their actual R values are quite low unless you get the very expensive onesand if this is going inside a wall cavity the radiant barriers will be less effective while regular insulation will be more every house should have a radiant barrier but if it is a choice between one or the other then stick with the regular insulation ans it is nearly impossible to calculate how much of a benefit you will get from a radiant barrier in terms that can be compared to an R value.
