Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.
Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.
Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.
Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

- You can make very oversized hard candy in wrappers candy canes chocolate bars using the following: round styrofoam discs (in white about 1 - 2 thick); candy cane shaped styrofoam 7/8 or 1 wide red ribbon (the kind you'll find in craft stores in the Christmas section.for cheap) and clear cellophane wrap Thick cardboard (to create chocolate bar) Craft paper to use as wrappers pins scotch tape aluminum foil glue gun Instructions: Using round styrofoam disc: use red ribbon and wrap it so that it looks like a peppermint candy (like the kind available in restaurants)Wrap with clear cellophane and tie the ends with ribbon Candy cane, just use ribbon and wrap around the cane so that it'll look like a candy cane Cardboard: cut it in a shape of an oversized chocolate barWrap with foil, then use some type of brown or bright paper to use an outer wrap for the candy bar Create a few of these, then cluster them together (i.e.: 2 hard candy w/1 candy caneAnother cluster is one hard candy w/2 chocolate bars; another cluster: 1 hard candy; 1 candy cane 1 chocolate bar.basically, vary how you'll create the clusters of candy to make Candy Cane Lane) Gumdrops.hmmmMaybe cardboard, cut in shapes of gumdrops, painted brightly and sprinkle glue clear glitter for sparkle (or for 3D, consider styrofoam shaved into shapes of gumdrops) Gingerbread men: Cut out of cardboard and use caulking to decorate gingerbread (like icing)I did this as an art project.it turned out really neat! Hope this info helps you out! Good luck on your project! It's best to do this as a group project (plus it makes it that much more fun!)

- You are making a heat exchangerOne way to do this is to run water through a very large radiator like a Semi truck radiator and air through the other way using fans and pumps but chilling the water is the problemOne way to remove the water from the air is a squirrel cage separator like in aircraftThe air is forced through a funnel to compress it then a tube then through an expander, like a funnel backward through a turbine into a fiberglass bagThe bag is on a wire frame which is spinningWith the air going through the pressure drop area the moisture condenses on the bag and gets slung off to the walls of the tube it is inside ofThe water runs down the walls to a drainThe dried air passes out the other end through a tube into the roomFiberglass is used in the bag because it doesn't soak up water and doesn't rustYou will need pumps and blowers and a chiller unless you use cold tap water.

- Q: I am looking for ideas for my pumpkin, I want to make it a snowman, but i cant cut the pumkin in anyway, i CAN paint, glue ectPlease give me your best ideas on how to make my pumpkin look like a snowman, i will be using three pumpkinsThanks for all your help ahead of timeI like really creative ideas, i dont mind doing a little extra work.
- Well, to make the pumpkins white you could wrap it or them with strips of white cloth, mummy-styleOr you could cover the 3 pumpkins (attached together permanently or temporarily) with something like aluminum foil or a large thin plastic bag (dry cleaner or garbage), then papier mache itOncethe papier mache covering is dry, paint or decorate it to look like a snowmanTo remove the papier mache later, or to create a freestanding snowman to use now (which you could stuff if you wanted with wads of paper), cut the whole snowman papier-mache-covering in half lengthwise with a pair of kitchen scissors or other sturdy scissors, or a craft knife carefully (up sides of body, over top of head), then remove the 2 partsTape them back together and paint-decorate, or just tossYou could also put the aluminum foil or plastic bag on the pumpkins, (which you'd tape or tie tighter around the narrower parts), then spray with some of that fake-stone stuff from the craft storeI'm assuming you can't paint the pumpkin(s) white permanently, but if that's so, just use a white spray paint or a primer then the white paintAnd decorate with any kinds of clothing, facial onlays (felt, baked polymer clay, etc.), etc., you wantHTH, Diane B.
