- Q: For example, we know that air is a better insulator then styrofoamBut why?
- Thermal insulation depends upon the material, its thickness, and its densityStyrofoam will conduct heat better because its atoms and molecules are closer together, and that means they can pass heat through easier.
- Q: I purchase only 300 to 400 hundred thread count bed linens and just started experiencing this problemI recently bought a new washer and dryer and wonder if one or the other could be the culprit?
- The apple will only turn brown if cut and exposed to the airThe only way to prevent this is lemon juice rubbed on all exposed areas, so none of them would work.
- Q: My dog is in a crate during the day while I am at workI live in AZ and it is starting to get hot outI usually check the temperature on the weekends to judge for the week but I'm kinda stuck nowFor the last couple of weeks I've been leaving the windows open and it has stayed pretty cool but now that it's getting hot.what is a good temperature to keep my apartment at? I need it so it is affordable but at the same time comfortable for my dogHe stays in the crate all day with a blanket (so his elbows don't get those scars)Good temperature? Thanks!!!
- High heat will kill a dog, like leaving one in a car with the windows shut and parked in the sunA big no, no! In your apartment, however, it should be a lot easier to keep him coolFirst, do NOT put his crate in a position where it would get direct sun lightShade is vitally importantThe temperature should be set somewhere between 72 and 75, and a fan on the crate (from some distance) would be an added benefitInstead of a blanket in the crate, check your pet store for a cooler crate padThey even have chew toys that you can soak with water and freeze, and many dogs enjoy these Have you considered setting up a small exercise pen? You can find these at pet shopsIf you are leaving the dog all day, a bigger area would be betterSomewhere you can leave water down for the dogA utility room, bathroom or portion of the kitchenMake sure the floor is easy to clean, put down a potty pad and a secure dish with waterLeave the radio or tv on for companyYou may even want to consider doggy day care a couple of times a week to give your dog a break from the crateGood luck with your dog.
- Q: yeah.lol I just want to know the name of it.
- To get the best deal on wool roving (no, it doesn't have to be merino) it is usually best to get it from a spinning vendor by the pound, or part poundBuying those little bags of balls that weigh less than an ounce (you might get a couple of ounces total in the bag) is the most expensive way to get itMany spinning vendors (check the lists on Interweave's Spin-Off pages for them) sell dyed rovings and felting grade rovings and batts (these are like blankets of wool fibers)If you call the seller and tell them you are looking for something for needle felting and want something less expensive than merino, most will be able to accommodate youHowever, be prepared, some of these wools can be pricey per ounce, so stick with something that is all wool, the more exotic the fiber content the more expensive it will beThis is why you should tell the vendor you want to needle felt with it, they'll sell you stuff that is a bit more coarse than most spinners want to use for sweater yarns, which is then, by it's nature, usually less expensiveMany vendors will also send you samples of the rovings so you can see what you are gettingDyed rovings will also be more expensive than white ones, but you can dye them (carefully) yourself with frosting dyes in the kitchen.
- Q: I'm trying to go on a high fiber diet what are some foods that contain a lot of fiber?
- High fiber food ideas :) ~ Fruits/berries like pear, raspberries, apple, blueberries, strawberries, etc ~ Vegetables like broccoli, green beans, kale, spinach, cauliflower, carrot, swiss chard, etc ~ Sweet potato ~ Beans like chickpeas, black beans, kidney beans, lentils, mixed beans, etc ~ Nuts like almonds, walnuts, seeds, nut butter like almond or peanut butter ~ Whole grain bread, whole grain pasta or brown rice pasta, brown/wild rice, quinoa, etc ~ Flax seed, ground flax seed ~ High fiber cereals, like bran cereals such as raisin bran ~ Oatmeal I hope this helps :)
- Q: okayyso im not asking for a speech just a topic that will keep my class interested for 3-5 minif so not ones like smoking nd beer.too commenplez nd thanxs if you comment:)lt;3
- Clean it often to keep it nicce and fresh and smooth so the taste is better and ask someone at the tobacco shop or a head shop for suggestionsI know they make like this spray stuff that flavors tobacco and it works pretty well.
- Q: What are your remidies? Pills, sertin helping foods etc?
- What KIND of expandable foam did you use? Some types are easier to dissolve than othersI recommend reading the can it came inIt most likely covers this issueDepending on the length of the tube, a properly sized drill bit will probably work better than scraping.
- Q: Ok, using R-19 fiberglass insulation 6 1/2quot; thick, when put in a 2x4 wall does it A: spring back to original thickness forcing the drywall to buckle? C: Solidify from pressure at being compressed and turns into foamboard? D: Compressed from 61/2' to 31/2quot; losing some R-value Choose A,C,D.
- Compressing it, it will lose R valueYour compressing the insulation and its no longer able to trap air properlyThat what makes the insulation workSo D is your best answerGL
- Q: I have a brick ranch house, built about 60 years agoThe crawl space above the ceiling and under the roof is not that high to be working in.it can be done thoughThe current insulation, which is of a loose type, (I have no idea on what type it is) has shrunk to about a 1/2 inch in thickness.Which is better, economically? Which is better to put in, considering the small working space? I have approx1600 sqftto insulate.
- blown works - to a pointbut how can you ensure even coverage in all the corners, etcUnfortunately, getting in there and sweating and itching from 8 fibreglass batts is still the best and most consistent wayLay one set fitted between the joists, then another laid at right angles crosswise over that16 inches of insulation, and you know that is what you have, not ten inches of cellulose here, but maybe only 2 in a corner or just along a joist where the air currents didn't carry the fluffy crap properlyA pain in the butt job, but worth doing rightJust don't lift your head too high or you'll get puncture wounds from the roofing nails sticking down into the attic spaceand fibreglass is 2x the expense.
- Q: It's fairly warm in my room, but the heater is pretty much all the way upIt is kinda draftyBut after being outside in wind chills in negative numbers, for only about 5 minutes, I can't warm up! I have a heavy blanket on my body a light fuzzy blanket over my head so I could breatheSoo like why am I still cold? I've been laying here for an hour.
- the bigger you are the longer it takes for your body temperature to adjust to the outside or room temperature, if you are a big person, then it might just need a little more time, also, if you cover your self in blanket make sure that they are not wrapped tight around you, a blanket keeps you warm by holding your heat on you, the tighteer it is the easier it is for heat to escape
