- Q: Hi, I was wondering if the house appraisal for a house with all hardwood floor was higher than it is if the house has all tile. Thanks!
- REAL harwood floors (meaning the flooring is 100% hardwood and not a laminate of any kind) usually appraise SLIGHTLY higher. This means the floors are in great shape with no re-finishing needed.etc needed. It also means they are flat (not warped) or dinged and stain free. As with tile wood floors come in all price ranges. Laminates (like babmboo or pergo) won't be valued as highly as 100% hardwood planks. Tile floors are 'iffy'. Just like harwood there are all different grades of tile. Cheap tiles -ceramic,terra cotta- do not appraise as highly as porcelain, stone or marble flooring. But even with the best of the best of either the appraisal value would change only a few 100 dollars between the best quality and the worst quailty of either.Hope this was helpful
- Q: We are about to install 450 sq ft of 18x18 inch travertine tile on an indoor concrete floor and I need as much information about the installation process as possible. I have done a number of ceramic tile jobs, but never laid travertine. Some of the questions I have are:1. is it best to use spacers and grout, or butt the tiles?2. if I use spacers, what size should I use?3. should I apply a coat of sealer to the tiles before laying them?4. what size notched trowel should I use and at what angle?5. how many coats of sealer, brand and type of finish is recommended?6. I read somewhere that it is not recommended laying travertine straight, but in a Versailles pattern. Any one have any idea what this is?Does anyone have any more advice on laying this type of tile. Any advice will be deeply appreciated. Don
- Installing travertine is not an easy task but it is definitely worth all the effort. It is perfect for floor tiles and travertine pool coping is perfect as well! The thing that you have to do is to speak with a professional about it.
- Q: I recently put in a wood stove. It was professionally installed and certified to meet fire regulations. I don‘t know anything really about the install just that it doesn‘t require any r value underneath it. It just requires a pad for embers. There was a long waiting list to get it installed but an opening came up and we got it installed sooner than we planned. So we didn‘t get the tiling done. Currently it is sitting on a base made with 2x6s spaced 6 apart covered with 3/4 plywood and a sheet of durock cement board attached with durock screws and all seems taped with durock tape and covered with durock cement plaster. I want to finish it with tile. However, the stove is too heavy for us to lift. Its a pedestal woodstove so would it look okay tile up to the pedestal? If so how much space should I leave against the pedestal? What should I put in the gap? High-heat caulking? I‘m very new to this so any advice is welcomed. Thanks!
- You will be better off if you remove the stove and tile. See if they installers can come back out and set it aside , be sure to make where the feet set first, measure and write down so that the feet doesn't sit on a joint . It will make to job make better,
- Q: I‘m looking to buy black and off white tiles for my kitchen walls and just wondering does anyone know where is cheapest?? and which tiles are best??? please help its my first time doing up a house and iv no idea which ones to get or where to buy them.. and we‘re on a very tight budget:( thank you:)
- Sorry, some of that wasn't really about tiling, but still: Home Depot is a great place to get tiling from. It has some extremely cheap prices! I definitely would recommend them as far as pricing. Hope this all helps!
- Q: I used acetone on my tile to get up some hair dye and it stained the tile white where the acetone was. i know now that i probably shouldn‘t have done this so please just answer question. How do i fix it?
- Without knowing what kind of tile you're talking about, it's hard to give an accurate answer. Because your tile was blemished by the acetone, I assume it is a matte finish tile, which will absorb moisture. You will probably have to replace the tile. First, go to a tile or flooring store, explain what you did and what happened and see what they recommend. As for fixing the tile, if you haven't removed old grout, fractured and removed a tile, cleaned out old thinset, laid new thinset, the tile, and grouted, I suggest you leave this to a professional.
- Q: Is the usual household and engineering brick Such as ordinary tiles and large tiles are much Synthetic tons of how many blocks around
- Ordinary 600mm * 600mm tiles 6.3 pounds or so 1 ton = 1000 kg 1000 / 6.3 = 158.7 about 159 or so
- Q: Easiest way to remove stick tile
- use a heat gun
- Q: I am renovating, and have always loved white coloured tiles but am now starting to like these light coloured hardwood Tasmanian Oak Floorboards ....I have no idea on prices yet, what would cost more? and which one would look more beautiful??PS- i would NEVER put floating floorboards - they are cheap and nasty!
- Hardwoods are classic. You can never go wrong with hardwood floors as far as resell value. I renovated two years ago. We have a 1500 sq/ft home. We did tile in the bath and hardwoods everywhere else. My husband wanted to tile the kitchen as well but we were talked out of it due to labor costs. Cleaning tile grout is troublesome, sealing it is ineffective if you have food stains or mud or something. My tile floors are very pretty but I regret it. Be sure to get real hardwood with NO laminate at all. Some hardwood floors are real wood on the surface but laminated onto a synthetic bottom. Be careful that way. Things to ask before choosing: How many times can they be refinished? Are they glued or nailed? (Glued are crappy, nailing is much more effective.) How do I clean them? (I use a steamer, no chemicals.) Will my subfloor support the hardwood? (we had to install a new subfloor). Oak and Hickory are the best HARD woods to choose from.
