I'll assume you intend to BUTT each sticky tile to any other. At some pint; some portion of that will come in contact with grout lines. In a normal process of just walking on the vinyl tiles; the grout lines will become evident; under the vinyl. Essentially a glazed ceramic tile is glass; and is not pourous, or even designed to adhere anything to it. For a transition area you could either install more tile first, or fill the transition; perhaps even feathering it? Without knowing the WHERE of the gaps; it may not be aesthetically suitable in any case. To more directly answer your Q; but so much not if favor of stick on anything; I offer this. I do it or suggest it every time. Get a can of contact cement; regular base or water base. Peel the paper from the back of each tile. Brush or roll contact cement to the back of the tile as well as the surface to be covered. Let air dry, then stick, press, and hope. Steven Wolf

- The size is up to you like the 1st poster said. The area you have can dictate the size some what. If you come into a hallway setting that is only 3/4 foot wide, I d put in a 6x6 or an 8x8 tile if you can find that size anymore.If its more open a larger tile will work well, But 99% of the time a 12x12 tile will work out fine. I never cut carpet completely until I know what size I m installing. If you know the cut off point you can cut it short of that area, leaving 6/8 of carpet . You ll want to fold it back and nail it down to retain the stretch in the carpet. If this is a completely open area, fold back the whole capet and nail down with a 1x3 or similar size to hold the stretch. Then you can install backer board if your not on a slab.Then tile , grout and refit the carpet to the size you ve installed. You can save the tack strip and use again . You may want to consider paying to have a carpet installer to turn and tack the carpet back in. This is tricky for a novice. - Q: I am in the process of installing a slate floor in my mudroom. The durock has been laid, and the tiles cut and sealed, and I‘m ready to start using the medium set to secure the tiles in place, but as I‘ve never laid slate (or any tile) before, I have some questions. 1. The tiles are in place now how I want them, do I have to take up the tiles row by row before I start mortaring them in place, or can I do 1 or 2 tiles at a time?2. I laid the tiles out starting from the center and working outwards. When I lay the tiles in place do I again start at the center, or do I start from the edges, or doesn‘t it matter?3. What is the best way to prevent lippage? As this is slate there is a good amount of variation. Do I just back butter each tile so that it is as high as the highest tile in the room? Individual tiles often vary in thickness from one corner to the other; others might have consistent thickness but be dished (not flat). These tiles are candidates to be cut for edge pieces, or they might not be worth using at all. Anyway, I layout the tiles from thickest on one side of the room to thinnest on the other and only need to butter a thin corner of that occasional irregular tile that is pretty enough to be worth the hassle. 4.
