Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.

Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.

Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.

Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

Aluminium (or aluminum; see spelling differences) is a chemical element in the boron group with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery white, soft, ductile metal. Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the Earth's solid surface. Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and limited to extreme reducing environments. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.

Aluminium is remarkable for the metal's low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are important in other areas of transportation and structural materials. The most useful compounds of aluminium, at least on a weight basis, are the oxides and sulfates.

Despite its prevalence in the environment, no known form of life uses aluminium salts metabolically. In keeping with its pervasiveness, aluminium is well tolerated by plants and animals. Owing to their prevalence, potential beneficial (or otherwise) biological roles of aluminium compounds are of continuing interest.

Q:its a paste with very fine granules of somethingthe one from my dentist comes in this tiny 'one time' use cup, covered with aluminum foil, and its very thick, almost not a pastei've asked my dentist to give me some and he did, but i dont like to keep asking.they are not quot;retail packagedquot; and being in tiny round cups tells me they were specifically made for the dentist's apparatusanyone know of anything similar?i really like the clean feeling they givethanks
you should wear nothing
Q:Why are various alloys of aluminum still used in packaging, buffering agents, utensils, pots, pans, and other products if we know it is bad for us? Why do companies continue to use products, metals, and certain chemicals that have proven to be a slow and insidious toxin to the general population? What is wrong with our world, or our nation for that matter?
Why do companies continue? Because in a CAPITALIST society, making a (shortterm) profit is more important than other peoples' longterm health.
Q:If it's because plastic is cheaper than cans, then economic efficiency would dictate that we shouldn't have cans of pop, only bottlesThat is not the case.Another point of note is that carbonated water, like Perrier and club soda, are frequently packaged in cans, why not spring water?
well with my old rabbit we use to put straw in it's cage so you could possibly try that if you haven't, and just put new straw in there every few daysAlso if it tries to eat the straw just put some grass in there and it will most likely eat that instead.
Q:An aluminum tube is 3.0000 m long at 20°C.a)What is its length at 72.0°C?b)What is its length at -4.0°C?
It sounds like the vent duct for your fan has a leak that is pushing moisture down the wallsThat would be the first thing I would look for Insulation will cover the fan, that is properWhat is important is the condition of the duct work from the fan to the outside Also you need to figure out how to dry that wall out.
Q:I have called several top plumbing/water heater stores who seem to have no idea what I am talking aboutI can find some American stuff online but most of them don't ship to Canada or charge a fortuneI just want my smelly water to go away and everyone I talked to said this would be the best way without thousands of dollars in filtration additions.
I find it hard to believe nobody at the supply shops know what an anode tube isIs the smell just in the hot water? You can put peroxide in to temporary remove the sulfurWhy not call your local plumber?
Q:Or do I have to find actual tinfoil?
That depends at room temperature, and at average 'on top of the head' temperature ( between 60F - 100F ) both metals are good electrical conductors (Aluminum is somewhat better)so either would be a good RF receiveras pointed out, you need to also concern yourself with the ground in RF applications if the temperature drops, (below about 50F) relatively pure tin will degradeIf not reheated to stop this processor if it gets really cold (sub-zeromaybe -30C)then you have to worry about tin pest where the tin totally crumbles awayThere is a legend that Napoleon's (soldiers'?) uniform buttons all rotted away, making them more susceptible to the cold on his ill-fated march toward MoscowOf course, if on the other hand, you are looking at bio-acoustic properties, Tin is known as the best and most tonally resonant metal [2 links from Wiki to Google Books] Therefore, a tin device could be much better at deflecting, or altering the properties of any acoustic waves directed at you [ I don't know that tin retains this best quality outside of (a) pipe organ production, and (b) sound frequencies we can hearlike pipe organs would use Sub-sonic ULF or supersonic frequencies , wellYMMV.] So, without more specific detail about the mind-control method (RF, acoustic, other.) AND about the way you intend to use the metal (Faraday cage, radio antenna, shaped helmet.) , I really can't be sure.
Q:I put aluminum foil on the bottom of my oven and now it is stuck to the oven How do I get it off?
Get the window scraper from your car that you use for snow (winter is cold here) scrape off the loose sectionsFrom the hardware store buy a single edge razor bladeGENTLY scrape the foil up and any other food that in also stuckPurchase a oven sheet instead from a kitchen supply store. These look like tan colored plastic BUT are heat resistant and easy to cleanPSan old razor blade may have small rust crystals on the blade that will scratch many surfaces like glass, enamel, porcelainHave fun and good cookingdennis
Q:Hello! I wanted to make a start at cosplay and create some horns to wear on a headbandI wanted to make ram horns, and they'd be really heavy with the air dry clay I haveI don't mind them being heavy, except they may fall off of the headbandI've never worked with polymer clay, so I'd rather work with air dry clay, but if it's much lighter then I would love to use itI'm not sure where to get polymer clay as well, so you may answer that too!
Polymer clay will be much lighter - especially since you ought to make something the size of horns hollow around a heavy duty aluminum foil core so it is has uniform thickness walls for proper baking (actually air dry should be hollow also, harder to dry) and to save moneyBuy the larger block of Sculpey, etc., to save money although you might want to buy smaller blocks for a lower initial investmentAnd with polymer clay you can glue a much more reliable mount inside to attach.
Q:Please include the right ingrediants and all the directions and the source if u have oneThank you so much
