Physical
Aluminium is a relatively soft, durable, lightweight, ductile and malleable metal with appearance ranging from silvery to dull gray, depending on the surface roughness. It is nonmagnetic and does not easily ignite. A fresh film of aluminium serves as a good reflector (approximately 92%) of visible light and an excellent reflector (as much as 98%) of medium and far infrared radiation. The yield strength of pure aluminium is 7–11 MPa, while aluminium alloys have yield strengths ranging from 200 MPa to 600 MPa.Aluminium has about one-third the density and stiffness of steel. It is easily machined, cast, drawn and extruded.
Aluminium atoms are arranged in a face-centered cubic
(fcc) structure. Aluminium has a stacking-fault energy
of approximately 200 mJ/m2.
Aluminium is a good thermal and electrical conductor,
having 59% the conductivity of copper, both thermal and
electrical, while having only 30% of copper's density.
Aluminium is capable of being a superconductor, with a
superconducting critical temperature of 1.2 Kelvin and
a critical magnetic field of about 100 gauss (10
milliteslas).
Chemical
Corrosion resistance can be excellent due to a thin
surface layer of aluminium oxide that forms when the
metal is exposed to air, effectively preventing further
oxidation. The strongest aluminium alloys are less
corrosion resistant due to galvanic reactions with
alloyed copper. This corrosion resistance is also often
greatly reduced by aqueous salts, particularly in the
presence of dissimilar metals.

In highly acidic solutions aluminium reacts with water to form hydrogen, and in highly alkaline ones to form aluminates— protective passivation under these conditions is negligible. Also, chlorides such as common sodium chloride are well-known sources of corrosion of aluminium and are among the chief reasons that household plumbing is never made from this metal.
- Q: First offif I like the raw aluminum lookcan I just leave it bare? will it discolor over time?Assuming I do need to paint/prime/clearcoatI just sandblasted and stripped the alloys back to bare metal (an aluminum alloy)I went to an auto parts store and explained that I needed a primer so that I can repaint the alloysThe service rep gave me quot;pro form pf 534quot; which is a zinc coatingBut when I got home I read the label and it says: quot;for steel and galvanized metalquot; ??Is the service rep an idiot? I figured I needed some kind of self-etching primerIf soI am very glad I did not waist an entire day prepping these rims.Any help is appreciated.
- O.k., first off yes you could just polish up your rims they would then look like chromeIf you did you would need to use a metal cleaner each week to keep the lookI am not in favour of using a two pack Lacquer, because it breaks down in bad weatherI would think on reflection,if you are not some kind of a cleaning nut, your best way would be an acid etch primer, this is if you are going to paint on to bare alloy rimsfollowed by any colour paint, use an acrylic paintPersonally I would save up and get the job done by a pro,stripped-de-greased-Powder coated, about ?50 a corner.
- Q: Today in chemistry we did an experiment on the reactivity series and single displacement reactionsAt one point we had to put aluminum into copper(II) sulphateAccording to the reactivity series, aluminum is more reactive than copper and should displace it from its ionic compoundBut after a very long time, there didn't appear to be any reactionWhat's going on?We used aluminum foil as our aluminum metal sample, so that may have something to do with it.
- I think you should be alright because sometimes i bake stuff on foil and nothing has happened to me and Just like Joyce ksaid may food places that sell sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, and more use foil and nothing happens to people who purchase it.
- Q: a. glassb. scrap aluminumc. Al2 03d. bauxitee. clayf. rubber
- Scrap aluminum by far. To get aluminum from an ore, it must be mixed with other salts and melted and a huge amount of electricity passed through the molten mixture to reduce the aluminum to the metallic state. A lot of energy needed, To melt scrap is somewhere around 5-10 % of the energy to make new from ore. Aluminum cannot be reduced by heating an ore with carbon like iron and many other metals.
- Q: Band gap in Aluminum Phosphide is 2.5 Electron Volts(1eV1.6e-19 J) What wavelegth of light is emitted?Do you solve this with Braxx's equation? If so, what values would you plug in.
- Yes it's true, you'll poop more, but high fiber foods are really healthyA high fiber diet is recommended to avoid diseases like colon cancer and diabetes, weight gainThe recommended daily amount of fiber is 25g for adultsAt first you might experience stomach discomfort from high fiber foods like beans, broccoli, etc, but it's really good for your body.
- Q: when baking and using aluminium foil in pan which faces the meat, shinny or dull?
- As a professional chef, It really doesn't matterThe sides are shinny and dull as part of the manufacturing processJust be careful of the contact of Aluminum foil to certain foods with a high acid content like tomatoes as they will eat through the metal.use plastic wrap as a barrier between food and foil.
- Q: I just got a microwave,.tons of questions.like can I cook an egg in the microwave? What type of containers can I put in there (plastic, paper, glass, aluminum foil)? Anything I shouldn't ever do.please let me know:)))
- You should never put in anything metal that didn't come with it unless it is designed for microwave use (like a turntable)That includes aluminum foil and jar lidsNo plastic unless you are sure it is microwaveableMelamine plates are not microwaveableMost recently made plastic and plates have information as to whether or not they are microwavablePyrex is excellentDon't use the fine chinaYou should get a plastic food cover to contain spattering and prevent cleanup You can poach eggs in a microwave and a special holder is made for this purposeBe sure to puncture the yolkI can see no reason for trying to cook eggs in the shell and it could create a real messOther egg dishes that are cooked in a pan should continue to be cooked in a panMicrowaves cook by increasing the molecular movement of water, which creates heatThat's why foods cook all the way throughFoods that have little water don't cook wellI think the best thing is that we no longer throw away leftovers.
- Q: I'm doing a science experwith 8 yo kids about insulators vs conductors.some easy materials i could use?
- Paper, cardboard, aluminum foil, wax paper, nails, paper clips.
- Q: So, this is my first time attempting to cook a turkey (breast)It weighs 4.4 poundsAny simple marinades/baste recipes? Approximately how long and at what temp should I bake it?Thanks
- this is called DabblingYou can't practice witchcraft, make that call into the Ether and then shut it out when it answersHere's a little tidbit for you: Voodoo does workIf you believe in karma you should probably know that by making the poppet in someones image you've already violated the Rede, therefor you will get bad Karma whether you like it or notYou are giving people who practice the Craft with an honest heart a bad name by dabbling.
- Q: aluminum+oxygenaluminum has 3 electrons to give but oxygen only needs 2, so where does that extra electron go and what kind of charge is it.explain
- Well it simply isnt just Aluminum + oxygen, they have different coeffficients to make it work Al is +3, whereas Oxygen is -2, so you gotta find the Least common multiple of those which is 6 so 6/3 2 and 6/2 3, so there are 2 Al for every 3 Oxygen 2x3 + 3x-2 0 Al2O3 is your compound
