- It is most likely warped brake rotors no matter what the shop told you. Think about it,if it only does it when you brake then it is not a tire out of balance (that is usually only noticed at speeds above 50 or so) and alignment problems do not cause the wheels to shake when you are braking so I would say from my 30+ years of working on cars you have yourself warped brake rotors or drums. But it turns out to be rotors 98% of the time. Good luck.

- Okay. are you talking about the tires or the wheels? tires the rubber, wheels the rim, spokes and hub. Tires Yes - it is worth it! Pick up some slick mtb tires. There are two reasons that will hopefully convince you of this: 1. Rolling resistance - a thinner tire means less friction on the road, which will help you go faster. Thinner tires will also provide you with a smoother ride, and depending on the tire, often allow for higher tire pressures. 2. a smaller tire means less weight being hurled around the rim. This makes more of a difference than you think! Wheels Probably not worth picking up lighter wheels unless you're worried about making a podium spot (in which case you'd find a road bike to use). The mountain rims should be fine with some slick racing tires. Oh yeah, road bike (700cc) wheels do not fit with mountain frames (26 wheels). there is not enough clearance. good luck in the race!

- 4wd is for snow. you can use 2wd on snow or ice, but if its rear 2wd it will be really difficult to control the vehicle

- It has to do with the limited slip action in the differential - ever notice when you lose traction ( in mud, loose gravel) only one wheel spins- the traction is supposed to go to the one that has the traction ( though it dosnt seem to work that way and you get stuck anyway). If it were a positrac - both wheels would spin the same direction- since theyre locked together.

- if you want wheels that are good for street, you should get 52-55mm if your small and 56-60mm if your bigger. also check the durameter, for street it should be around 87a or 95a.
