Q: So right after the curved pipe that comes out of the muffler a piece of pipe, probably a little over a foot long rust off. The pipe itself wasn't that rusted just the ends of the piece that broke off. The front of the exhaust pipe is still secure and the curved section attached to the muffler seems secure as well. My father is good at fixing cars and is going to replace this section with another piece of pipe and fittings/clamps etc. Does this sound like an okay fix?: Anything with mass puts a dent in space-time (like a bowling ball on the fabric of a trampoline). If you want to send me a photo, I'll tell you what the problem looks like. A lot of fittings are not meant to have plumbers tape, in which case putting plumbers tape on the surfaces before tightening them just makes them prone to leaking. If you have a flexible hose type connection, then these are not meant to have plumbers tape on the threads. Plumbers tape is meant for connections with tappered threads.

Q: I have a hard wired smoke alarm that is beeping 1x every 30 seconds. I removed the cover and looked for a battery and could not find anywhere for a battery to be placed.just the wires that the detector is attached to. I have lived in this house for 7 years and this is the 1st time it has chirped. I tried to test/hush it by pressing the test/hush button on the cover.and it is still beeping. I also reset power to the house and no luck. Am I missing something here? Any suggestions?: This is just my opinion, but as far as usage, tubing must be used in every case where O.D. dimension is important.That's why it's used in boilers and heat exchangers, because it must be inserted into the vessel through a hole, and so that dimension is important. The fittings used to join tubing are pretty limited. Above 1 diameter, pipe is almost always used for fluid transfer, because fittings (elbows and tees and stuff) must be used. At 1/8 to 1/2 diameter, you can use either to transfer material, but tubing gets a lot easier to work with as you go down in size.

Q: Like the part that goes through, you knows. Like holds/locks it.: Did you clean the pipe and the fitting with a wire brush? did you put flux on both after cleaning it? if so you have to heat them both up with a torch until they are really hot. the solder will not take if they are not hot enough.. flux is very important also try that then leave the torch on the joint you want to solder for a bit longer then try again, if it is still happening, keep heating it and try again. evenually you will get it.. I use mapp gas, but propane works also for your torch mapp gas burns hotter and heats them up faster. oh. are these new pipe and fittings? if so try above, if they are old, you have to make sure ALL of the water is out of the lines, or it will take you a VERY VERY long time to heat them up enough to solder, because the water cools the joint and the pipe, it has to turn the water into steam then the pipe will eventually heat up
