I got the PDF from hills you can find if you do an internet search of 'how to replace line hills hoist' which has instructions for 4 or 5 different models but my ancient model isn't included.My model only has metal loops on the arms. No clips, no pointy-outy things for the line to wrap around, just galvanized metal loops made of the same stuff the arms are.The current line is put through a metal loop and pulled around onto itself and appears to be crimped. The line is then simply run through the loops on the other 3 arms (no winding or tying) and when back at the first arm, it's put through the metal loop and crimped back onto itself again. And so on for all lines.I don't know how it could have been crimped so tight to not lose any tension over the years even though the line itself is deteriorating.Do I need a special tool to crimp the PVC wire?Thanks!
- it does take a special tool to crimp those aluminum sleeves. some people just smash them with a hammer, but the way you describe it you don't have a hard surface to lay it on (sounds like it's up in the air) to hit it hard enough to smash it. you could just buy some wire rope clams at Lowe's or Home Depot - no special tool needed to tighten them up other than a ratchet and socket or a nut driver.
