Q: Ten months ago had expensive black tile installed in master bath. Now the tile appears dull and definitely not shiny, and we‘ve tried the usual cleaners, but can‘t get the shine back. Any suggestions on what we might try to return the lustre to this nice black tile?
Your tile should stay shiny for a long time....as long as it was sealed after it was installed. You may want to ask the installer if they sealed it. If they did not, perhaps you have a claim against them. I am sure your local home improvement store has a sealer and a chemical for getting your shine back. Take a sample of your tile when you go in so they can give you a better professional recommendation. Also, take the tile to a tile/flooring store as they specialize in that.
Q: I have hot water radiant heat in a concrete slab that leaks occasionally so I can‘t put carpet on it. Do I dare put ceramic tile over it? Maybe the tile would keep the moisture down.
If you are positive it is leaking do not put anything over it. Fix the leak. It is not as bad as it sounds. If you know exactly where the leak is it is relatively easy to cut the concrete and repair the leak and then re-surface that area. Covering a leak with ceramic tile will only trap the moisture underneath it and eventually mold will develop in the grout joints.
Q: found porcelain floor and wall tile but im not sure if i can use it in the shower,do i have to use ceramic tile
Try a sealant. We had to seal our stone tile as it was asorbing water. Since then, it has been great.
Q: I am looking for an obsolete 8X8 ceramic tile I believe was made by Interceramic. It‘s described on my original sales slip from 1999 as IC WestPalm Surf It‘s solid white in color and has a slight pebble texture. I need to modify my kitchen some and don‘t want to tear up the entire floor to install new type tile. Any ideas how to find this tile if there‘s any left out there.
I agree with Fred on this one! But I do want to offer some help, try adding a border to the existing tile by chipping some of the edge pieces out and adding a complimentary tile in the same size but a nice color maybe set at a diagonal. Hope this helps!
Q: MyMy bathroom. which is about 75 square feet has a carpet and I want to change it to tile. The only utility is a toilet. How do I handle the toilet? If I use ceramic tile, does the toilet sit on the ceramic tile and does that cause a problem with breaking the tile? What do you recommend that is practical, easy to install, and still functional?
If you are not totally convinced that you want ceramic tile take a look at a flooring called Traffic Master. Last spring we put it in 2 of our bathrooms and it looks great! It is 3 or 4 times thicker than normal vinyl and very durable and quite inexpensive comparatively to tile or other flooring. It comes in 1 foot by 3 foot sections, and is a peel and stick tongue and groove type of installation. You may be set on tile, but do yourself a favor and check it out at Home Depot before you decide. And as an added bonus, you won't need to add the toilet extension but I highly recommend that do put in a new wax ring. Good luck!
Q: I bought 12 x 12 ceramic tile from Lowe‘s branded as SURFACE SOURCE with a PEI rating 4. I bought each tile for $0.58 each. I want to use the tile for the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room and living room. The tile was made in Mexico. I think the tile was being discontinued at Lowe‘s. Thus, I think that is why the price was so low. Did I make a mistake? The tile looks good and feels good so I do not see a problem with. I need an honest opinion.
Porcelain tiles are usually baked at higher temperatures than ceramic tiles. The higher temperature usually means better grade. Most porcelain tiles today have a PEI rating of 5, or suitable for heavy-duty traffic. Be careful about what is advertised as porcelain tile. Since not all ceramic tile is porcelain. I believe porcelain tile starts at a rating of 3 and goes up to 10 for commercial use so It would be a good tile. I suppose it would be suitable for residential use in your home. I don't see any reason for not using it, unless you expect it to stay perfect for 40 years. DIY Doc you get a thumbs up from me. You seem to try hard and give good advice.
Q: Is the usual household and engineering brick Such as ordinary tiles and large tiles are much Synthetic tons of how many blocks around
80 * 80 of the general box of 48 kg, a box of 3, a ton more than 20 boxes, more than 60 pieces. 60 * 60 now very few people use, a box of four
Q: We are thinking about adding small mosaic or stone tiles on our kitchen backsplash. We recently went to a short class at Home Depot on tiling. The guy there reccommended installing a backerboard on drywall first. Is this difficult for a first-time DIYer? Several of the tutorials I‘ve found online install directly onto the drywall. Any recommendations? What are the consequences for installing directly onto the drywall? Thanks in advance.

Q: I've tiled the walls and floors in my bathroom and want to install a tile baseboard. what kind of adhesive would work. Thanks
Hi, I'm Nick The Tile Man. You can purchase thin-set mortar from Lowe's, Home Depot or your local tile supplier. It should cost about 30 dollars or less. It will bond onto tiles. Check out my web site for free information for all tile repair work.
Q: There are thousands of individual tiles. If one falls off or something like that does everything burn up? thanks and how did the heat shield not work for the shuttle in 2003? it might have been in 2001 i have to ask my science teacher
It depends on where the tile is, and when it comes off. In the case of the Columbia accident in 2003, it actually wasn't the tiles--it was one of the carbon-carbon panels on the leading edge of the wing that got hit by a briefcase-sized hunk of insulation off the external tank, and got a hole blown in it. During reentry, the hole allowed hot gasses to enter the structure of the left wing. The heat caused the aluminum used in making the wing to weaken and fail. There are two kinds of tiles used, in addition to the carbon-carbon panels on the leading edge of the wing and the nose. The black tiles that you see on the underside and coming up the side of the fuselage are for areas of greater heating, while the white tiles protect areas where there is less heating. Losing a tile has two possible problems. If the tile is directly over a critical area (say a hydraulic line), you may get burn through and cause the line or whatever to fail. Popping off a tile also changes the way that air flows around the shuttle. It's possible that the turbulence from one missing tile can cause others to come off in what is called the zipper effect. The more tiles you lose, the greater the chance that you're going to lose a critical tile. Also, if you lose enough of them, it's possible that the shuttle might become aerodynamically unstable, and impossible to control. I don't recall any of the flights having a problem with burn through even though tiles have been lost or damaged on just about every flight
