- Q: Is light from a light bulb polarized?? How can you tell or how do you know if a type of light is polarized??
- Light from a lightbulb is NOT polarized. You can tell if you get a pair of polaroid sunglasses (or a polarized light filter) and rotate your head from side to side while looking at the lightbulb. That is to say, first tilt your head way to the left and then move your head so it tilts way to the right, looking at the lightbulb the whole time. If the intensity of the bulb appears to go dark at some point, then that would be evidence of polarized light. However, I don't think you will observe such changes in intensity, indicating the light from the bulb is not polarized.
- Q: is there a way to measure roughly the light intensity coming out of a torch in a dark room? preferably without a light meter
- In regard to Anal kumar S method of using photoelectric effect to help determine the intensity, I think it is not a good way to determine the intensity of the light from the torch. The type of metal emitter used is important as if the light from the torch, being not monochromatic, have certain light with a frequency below the thrash old/cutoff frequency of the metal, then that frequency of light is as good as useless. Furthermore, this experiment is hard to carry out. The collector plate will not be able collect most of the photoelectric electrons as the electrons will ionise the nearby air particles. This will affect the current measured and the intensity of light measured will carry a large percentage error. The way to prevent this is to conduct the experiment in a vacuum container. Also, the current measured will most likely be small due to the relatively low frequency of the light from a normal torch. A very sensitive ammeter is needed to detect the current. However, I am not able to think of better ways to measure the intensity :p. Maybe use a spectrometer or use a light dependent resistor and, of course, you need to know the characteristic of the resistor.

- If I'm understanding you correctly, no. As you said, black is the absence of light, thus you could not produce a light the emitted black light. However there are black lights that are actually emit violet and UV rays and you can certainly have a pretty dark violet color.

- There are too many to mention. Professional photography depends on good lighting, regardless of the subject. of course, good lighting can mean different things to different people (for example, good portrait lighting may be different from good landscape lighting)
- Q: I have a coldwater 3ft tank that has alot of natural light going through the tank as both sides are on show, would i need lights to keep plants that need low lighting like java fern?
- If you don't go with live plants then you can keep the light off all the time and only turn it on when you want to show the tank off, or you can go without one altogether. The fish do not need it at all and see fine with the regular room lighting. With java fern you should still provide several hours of aquarium light per day for them to do well.
