Q: Garden lights grounding practices picture
Garden lights generally more than 3 meters high, will use the tripod
Q: why incandescent light have full CONTINUOUS spectrum? and fluorescent has DISCONTINUOUS spectrum?
Because incandescent light is produced by a filament being heated, emitting light like a black body. Fluorescent tube produces UV light that is absorbed by phosphor, which re-emit visible light coldly, with a discontinuous spectrum that is a function of their chemical composition.
Q: Are you on Team Light or Team L?
L's team. He rocks, and everyone knows it. I must admit Light isn't THAT bad...no...wait...he his. T_T L's team, all the way. Poor guy. He made the anime/manga AWESOME! Without the character of L appearing it wouldn't have been half as interesting.
Q: You often here that light from other galaxies travelled 100 light years or a million light years. How do they figure out how old light is that reaches earth?
Good question! They can tell the distance to nearby stars by watching for parallax; that is the change in the star's apparent position in two observations six months apart. Since the Earth is on opposite sides of its orbit, the closest stars shift slightly in position. There is even a unit of distance called a parsec, which is the range for an object to be to have one arc-second (1/3600 of a degree) of parallax; 'parsec' is short for 'parallax second'. A parsec is 3.26163626 light years according to Google. (The nearest known planet outside our solar system is about 10.5 light years away, or roughly 3 parsecs.) Of course, with really distant objects that won't work. In those cases astronomers look carefully at the spectrum of the light. It includes bright or dark bands at known positions, from the emission or absorption spectra of various elements. It is also known that, since space itself is expanding, that the further an object is away from us the more it will appear to be moving away (although it isn't really; space is actually getting bigger). This has the effect of stretching light waves from distant stars, which shifts the colour spectrum toward the red end of the spectrum. This red-shift can be measured, and used to calculate the apparent speed of the star, and from there determine how far away the light source is, and therefore how old the light is. Of course, the distance scale needs to be calibrated. Conveniently, there is a kind of exploding star called a Type 1A supernova which, because of the way it occurs, always has about the same luminosity. So by looking across many, many galaxies for the light signature of Type 1A supernovas, and measuring their apparent brightness, it's possible to determine the distance to them directly. Then, by looking at their redshift, you can figure out how much the universe is expanding and use that as a guideline for determing distance with red shift. And there you have it.
Q: superposition of light with different frequency
Monochromatic light is light of a single frequency. It can be any frequency, hence any color. Red, green and blue correspond to the ranges of frequencies the cones in our eyes are sensitive to. The other colors we perceive are created by our brains based on the mixture of red, green and blue our eyes receive. The three different types of cone are each sensitive to a range of frequencies, not a single frequency, so we don't really see monochromatic light as such.
Q: when ever i flex with good lighting my muscles seem to look bigger and more defined..is my muscle actually big? or just the lighting making it big? thx
The better lighting can make them look bigger because it casts better shadows and thus increases their definition. The angle of the lighting is probably important also because of the shadowing effects.
Q: looking for light projects
I may be totally off with this but infinity reminded me of a type of decorative light fixture which was more artsy than a viable light source. The structure was basically a shadow box perhaps 3 inches deep, and in this case it may have been square. At the back of the box was a mirror that fit entirely. Around the inside of the box were what may have been white christmas lights, and the face was glass covered. As I recall the entire structure was painted black. As I'm thinking this however there must have been other mirrors, unless the back of the clear glass front was refelctive to the inside, because what one could see was a series of these lights in a vanishing perspective way. Steven Wolf
Q: So light obviously travels at the speed of light, wouldn't that mean light travels as far as it possibly can instantaneously?
Relative to the light that is true. All time stops for light so from its perspective it takes zero time to do any real distance. Of course the other way of viewing it is that from the perspective of light all distance shrinks to zero so no matter what the speed you must reach the end of the universe instantly.
Q: of light
Speed of light = 299,792,458 metres per second Distance to nearest black hole = 1600 light years Time (at light speed) to nearest black hole = 1600 years
Q: They say LED lights last 1000s of more hours than conventional lights. But I see too many dead LEDs in the signal lights. Why?
LEDs are inherently more reliable and longer lived than filament or discharge lamps - traffic signals may show missing segments due to poor manufacture (dry joints) or any number of electronic failures. The power supply to them could also spike (especially in mobile t-lights), causing premature failure. I'd need to see the schematic for a more accurate analysis.
