- Q: Is light from bulbs, the same as light from the sun?
- Well, not exactly. Light is both wave and particles. The wave is an EM wave and the particle is the photon. The photon is the same for all light, but the wave frequency differs. The sun emits all sorts of EM waves, x-rays, infrared, visible light, gamma ... You can also see visible light, and that what's the bulb emits. Some of the waves from the sun could be the same as those from the bulb. Frequency also changes according to color, I'll not go into the details, you could research those on a wiki.

- Light is an electromagnetic transverse wave composed of 2 oscillating fields, an electric field and a magnetic field travelling perpendicular to each other. EM radiation does not need any medium to travel through and as such can propagate through a vacuum. Light along with ALL EM waves travel at roughly 3x10^8m/s through a vacuum. If you want to know about what we consider visible light, well it is any EM radiation within a wavelength of about 410nm(Violet) - 700nm(Red). A nanometer is 10^-9m, very small indeed. Any radiation within that wavelength is visible light. That is actually the only difference between all types of EM radiation, their wavelengths, which in turn affects their frequencies and as a direct result of that affects their photon energy. How do we create light? light is generally created by electrons. Electrons exist in energy levels. From the lowest energy electrons (ground state) to higher energy levels. In an atom the electrons can become excited. They become excited when they ingest EM radiation. Electrons have to absorb an exact quanta of energy before they can jump to higher energy levels, this is further proof that energy is quantified. When an electron absorbs say UV light(which is of a very high frequency and thus energy) the electron jumps to the highest energy level. After a while the electron de-excites by jumping down energy levels, when it jumps down a level it emits a photon of EM radiation that is equal to the energy loss. The electron could jumps form say the 5th energy level, to the 4th, or from the 5th to the 3rd, or from the 5th to the 1st, it can jump from there to pretty much any energy level, the corresponding difference in the energy levels is what is emitted as a photon. Why does the light spread? well because light is always travelling, so once a source is turned on, light will travel in any and all directions.

- Fog lights emit a different frequency of light. This allows better visibility in fog. The newer Xenon headlights emit a frequency of light appropriate for both clear weather and fog, hence when vehicles have Xenon lights, the manufacturer doesn't need to install fog lights, but may rather give Daytime Driving or LED lights.

- A is correct (B and C are wrong because a light-year is a measurement of DISTANCE within the universe and solar system, not a measurement of time)
- Q: Is this light suppose to stay on. Same question for Air bag light. This is also stays on. Neither light turns off.
- ETS is your traction control system. If your airbag light stays on then there is a problem. Your car is trying to tell you that there is something malfunctioning with the airbag system. It will tell you more in your manual about that; if your airbag light remains on. It may be nothing, just a glitch or something like that. Take it to your local Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts and they will do a free scan diagnostic to see what is wrong. Same for your ETS light. Mechanic will probably charge you for a scan though. Is your traction control system on? If it says TRAC OFF your system is off. Press the ETS button to ingage the TRAC system.

- Anything moving at the speed of light experiences no passage of time. So yes, you could say that light, looking at itself, moves from here to there in no time. Likewise, when something travels at nearly (but not exactly) the speed of light, their subjective travel time from here to there is reduced. From the point of view of the traveler, it is the DISTANCE from here to there which has shrunk. For example, consider a star which is 4 lightyears (about 24 trillion miles) away. If an astronaut traveled there at 99% of the speed of light, the trip would seem about 4 years long to observers on earth. But the astronaut would say that the trip only took about 7 months, and that the star was actually only about 3 trillion miles away. The odd thing is that relativity says they're BOTH right. time intervals and distances do not have any absolute value, but are relative to each observer.
- Q: I'm looking for a motorcycle tail light for a motorized bike I'm trying to make street legal. Does anyone know where I can find a good LED 12 volt tail light/brake light that is DOT approved and not to expencive?I'm planing on fitting it to a bracket on my rear rack that is originally for a bicycle reflector so I want a flat square shaped tail light that's 3 to 4 inches wide. I can work with bigger if I have to but 5 inches is as big as I'd be willing to go so it's not blocking the turn signals. Online it seems almost impossible to tell if a tail light is DOT approved or not unless they say which usualy they don't.
- DOT is for legal to sell. For using what matters if the you get enough light. You can use motorcycle lights, car lights, trailer lights....

- Q: i think i understand light years but to get to say the sun its 7 light minutes to get to the moon its light seconds etc what the hell is the difference?
- A light year is how far light can travel in one year. A light minute is how far light can travel in one minute. A light second is how far light can travel in one second. So a light minutes is 60 times as far as a light second. If the sun in 7 light minutes from the earth , then if something flicked a switch and turned off the sun at 9:00AM, we on earth would not be in the dark until 9:07. The sun would have been turned off for 7 minutes before it got dark here. ( Kind of like a water spigot at the top of a hill. When it is on, water runs down the hill. But when you turn it off, the water already on the hill keeps running until it has reached the bottom. Turning off the spigot does not mean the bottom suddenly has no water, what is in transit must still arrive.) Hope that helps.
