You should have AT LEAST new All weather or possibly snow tires. No doubt studded tires are the best, and if you have anti-lock brakes, then you always have to have 4 matching tires for your anti-locks to work correctly. There is a fairly new tire out from a few manufacturers that has a special rubber and tread pattern that are the best in the snow and almost as good as Studded, about half way between studded and non studded without the studded problems Bridgestone Blizzak, and other tires like it. Blizzak is the highest rated non studded snow tire around. But its EXPENSIVE and wears FAST on dry roads. You may not need/want something this aggressive, just a good set of new snow tires might do the trick. And so some practice driving in an abandoned snow covered church parking lot.

Thanks!: I'd go to Pontiacs web pg or check the glove box and try to find the manual for the factory alarm bec there should be ways to set up the sensitivity of the alarm.I know when you first install a alarm the system allows you to set the sensitivity also the remote for the alarm may have a button to access settings. Hope that helps and best of luck,By the way if the car was in accident that might of stretched or damaged wiring causing shorts.Also if the alarm was set fact to factory default settings you should be able to set the sensitivity level but again you should be able to access the alarm settings at anytime.Note resetting the alarm might also fix the issue maybe the accident caused a pause or gap in the alarm programming.
