- Q: if you was recently shocked twice (bad enough that it went all the way from your fingers down to your toes) and then you had a headache and an occasional shooting pain through your arm would there be any reason for concern or is that just normal?and also, would there be any chance, that when you're touching water and metal in a very cold atmosphere (35degrees or so) that static electricity could cause that bad of a shock or would it definetly have to be some certain of electrical wiring problem?
- It does not cause electrical shock but the salt can burn or irritate their paws. Walk her, just make sure you clean her feet off afterwards if she walks where salt has been put down. Edit: What the article is saying is if there's water laying over a defective electrical line, salt will help conduct the electricity. That's kind of far fetched, how often do you come across exposed electrical wires? Just walk your dog on the sidewalk and keep it away from puddles and construction areas. Common sense stuff.
- Q: I know you need fuses for cars, electrical equipments, etc. I don't get what they are really used for?
- Fuses are placed in the path of an electrical current as a fail-safe to prevent your equipment from frying. It is essentially a piece of metal that breaks when too much current is applied to it. What this does is stop the electrical current from getting to your radio/ECU and doing damage to it. Usually if a fuse has blown in your car it is a sign that something has failed and you should check the related system before simply replacing the fuse and repeating the process.
- Q: I saw something about people who have problems with electrical equipment. Also lights flicker or go on and off or dim. The devices either will not work or act strangely for no apparent reason. There is nothing wrong with the equipment because it will work fine for any other person. There is a metaphysical term for people like this. - Hi Ditto. There is a school of thought that believes all living and non living things have their own electrical properties or spheres. Each individual is classified as living thing hence has his/her own electrical property. Sometimes his/her electrical property vibrate on the same frequency with other electricalelectronic devices in his/her vicinity depending on that person state of living. It's usually a temporary state of an affair which will pass eventually.

- Q: If it is, why?
- A house is usually grounded through its piping systems that have generous contact with the damp earth, resulting in negligible resistance. An AC circuit alternately pushes electrons into the earth and draws them back out (60 times a second) for each separate phase similar to the power generation station. Electrons need not travel from power station to house and back full cycle. A separate ground wire (cable) would be required if the earth's resistance resulted in appreciable power losses.
- Q: Curiosity just got the best of me. To be electrocuted one should make a complete circuit, right? What if you just touch the live wire and nothing else, you're not standing on anything, no ground. you're in mid air. Any thoughts? Thanks
- Basically correct. Power line technicians can work on live power lines via helicopter in this manner. And that's how all the birds sit on power lines. Although not touching a wire is not enough. At higher voltages, you'll get arcing if you just get close enough to another source. So a small bird can sit on a power line with no problem. But if it's not designed well, a larger bird with extended wings can get electrocuted even without touching the lines at all.

- Q: I have a garage full of my dad's old equipment from oscilloscopes, amplifiers, circuit board materials, etc. that I don't know what they are/or are worth, or how to go about selling. Does anyone have any suggestions other than listing everything individually (there is a lot) on OKorder or CraigsList? I'm leaning towards hiring someone to come in and auction it all off for me, but need suggestions.Thanks!
- There is a good chance that if it is old equipment, it won't be worth much. There is also a chance that some of the old amplifiers and circuit board materials contain hazardous material or chemicals that need to be disposed of properly. A first step would be to take the parts numbers off the equipment and enter them into google. There is a good chance that the stuff you have is not going to be worth anything, if there are pieces that are worth much you could sell those, and then ship the worthless stuff off to a electronics recyclers.
- Q: direct tv came to the house we just moved into and the power went out when he was hooking up a reciever and turns out all our outlets are messed up except two. one is completely dead. one was red on his tester thing and he said that is dangerous--forgot what he said about it and all the other are open ground i guess, and the fuse keeps blowing. is there any way to fix it without an electrician??? my husband knows some electrical stuff thanks
- Not a big problem first you have to find the short then get the ground wire working start by removing ALL loads on that circuit and pull the outlet covers then start with the wire disconnected at the breaker box using an ohm meter follow it as it was wired separating everything if needed to pin point short then when you got infinite reading hook back the wire and find the broken ground (sounds like a ground was hooked to a hot maybe
- Q: Affect Health? Noise problem?
- Depends on the devices, I lived below a cell tower (literally 1m over head, installed on the top of my building). After doing as much research as I could on it, I found that no one really knows for certain the effects of radio waves on humans. If your major concern is just large voltage electricals, the greatest risks are fire, a small magnetic field might interfere with your devices occasionally, and constant low hum.
