- What sort of crane? If it is an industrial crane in a factory, the maximum rating for the crane is always lower than the true maximum to allow for a safety cushion. If the crane states it cane lift say 1 ton, it can safely lift 2000lbs. It will lift up to 2300 lbs if needed though.
