What you need to worry about is sucking water into the engine through the intake, but since the engine is running now you didnt do that. The intake is high on the engine and designed to prevent that anyways. I would have the clicking diagnosed by a shop, theres way to many things it could be to even speculate here. Is this really worthwhile? I would suggest you look into getting a yellow bug light, it's quite possible that a different type of bulb than what you're using now might be much less attractive to crane flies. If not, addressing your unreasonable fear of insects would be a safer solution.

- a partial cheat that i use is 1st looking to see which items are at least open enough to get 2nd when i start up i get to the item then to go the left and right of item and adjust which way i go then try to aim for the middle of the item wanted then there is an 80 % chance that i will get the item i am aiming for but some of those crane games are rigged to the point you have to go at least 2 or 3 times depending on what type items are on there because the crane arm looses strength especially if it is far away from the exit hole
