- Q: how do they make those tall cranes so TALL?
- They come in sections. First few are fitted with a smaller crane anthe rest fit onto the side of the assembled base and are lifted up via the internal lifting mechanism then they just slot themselves into place forming another level containing a lift for the next piece and so on until the right height is achieved. I'm sure that's how it works. either that or it's magic
- Q: when a tall building is under construction you alwase see cranes on top. well i would like to know 1. how they move them up as the buildung gets taller and 2nd after there done how do they get them down?

- I wouldn't recommend it. I couldn't tell you if they are safe, but, at the very least, there is a very real risk that they may have been exposed to pesticides and other chemicals... Even if the crane flies themselves are safe for the dragon to eat, they may be exposing him to chemicals... And parasites, for that matter. It's all around not a good idea to feed wild-caught bugs.

- I think it's a one time deal. You don't have to string them. You have as long as it takes. Look up Sadako Sasaki. She was a 12 year old Japanese girl who tried to fold 1000 cranes while in the hospital in the 1950's. She had A bomb disease, also know as leukemia. She got it because of the bombing of Hiroshima as a baby. She died after only making 650 or so cranes. It's a very good true story though.

- You need to be more specific. The lifting capacities for container cranes varies significantly, as does any other crane. Some of the variation is based purely on load (horsepower) availability; some is based on speed (rpm) for lift/drop portions of the cycle. Cranes like these operate year-round, at ports all over the world. Some ports have average ambient temperatures in the range of 45 C, with highs up to 60 C. Others can be as low an average as 10 C, with a low peak as much as -50 C. Moisture will, over the long haul, harm them - they're metal constructs, and thus are prone to oxidation. Using corrosion-resistant materials and/or coatings will certainly prolong their usable lifespan. The crane drives (electric motors and power electronics) are also susceptible to moisture and other contaminants. All true dockside cranes require some sort of permanent foundation; it's usually part of the pier construction itself. However, there are portable cranes that operate without one. - sorry, i haven't read any Crane short stories, but i'm a HUGE fan of his poetry. it's some of the most bleak, raw, yet honest poetry i've ever read.
