Q: They need to put in a metal section. I mean, they have Jazz, Rock, Rap, Country, ect. But no Metal. Metal might be a form of rock, but metal an rock are 2 different things. Who else agrees?: Lich King, Skeletonwitch, Agalloch, Opeth, Lamb of God, Eluveitie, Wintersun, Black Dahlia Murder, Obscura, Necrophagist, Evile, that's about the best of the modern metal (in my opinion, of course). Then you have classic bands like Death Angel, Iron Maiden, Megadeth and Testament all making modern comebacks. I'm more of an old school metalhead, so I'm not the most informed in the new world of metal.

Q: what are some good southern metal bands?: Yes. It has has some infuence on both industrial and modern rock And then there's all the subgenres of metal.

Well in terms of getting away from the traditional 'Heavy Metal' sound forged by the metal bands of the 70/80s, yeah, there are tonnes of genres. Doom Metal is slower and thicker in sound than Heavy Metal. This branches out into Funeral Doom, which is really really slow and atmospheric. Then there is Sludge metal, which contains elements of hardcore, such as the vocals but utilizes the thick distorted sound in Doom Metal but takes it to an extreme level. Then there is Power and Symphonic Metal which is awesome but it is milder to the traditional metal sound, and often uses a vocalist which sings at higher pitches than other metal vocalists. It also uses some of the esoteric instruments used in Folk/Viking Metal such as keyboard, piano or even flute and full-on symphonies. Black Metal and Death Metal have taken on many different forms from the Melodic, to the Atmospheric, to the Brutal. There are many different genres for many different tastes of music. It is a very rewarding genre and there are lots of different genres.
