Q: Ok I know this sounds stupid but is there anyway to make stainless steel look older? It looks too new and I don't want it like that. Thanks.
Just abuse it. You could hit with a hammer, expose it to flame, throw it at or grind it around on rocks or concrete, rub it with steel wool. (be artful in how you do this, the pattern could end up looking too deliberate if you're not careful.) For an example of naturally aged stainless steel, look at some cooking pots/pans. If you don't have any old ones, maybe your parents or someone you know does. They usually get a little banged up/scuffed/stained after a while. (I think the stainless just means it doesn't rust.)
Q: What are the pros with stainless steel? You don't have to oil them as much or you don't have to oil them at all?Is the rifling in the barrel typically stainless steel as well? if so, is this better accuracy or does the rifling last longer then conventional?are they worth the extra money? Thanks for any info you can provide!
stainless steel is a alloyed steel that resist rust and corrosion. show it enough salt (sea spray or sweat) and it will pit Stainless steel goes all the way through ...it's not a coating like nickle-plate. the inside of a stainless barrel is stainless and they hold up just as well as carbon steel barrels. Extra money? Stainless is pretty popular in new production and the price is not that much different than comparable guns in blue. Oil OK... they do hold up better to salt and sweat than bluing...and there is not coating or plating that can wear off. Down side... the reflect light. Some can be a bit to shiny for some situations.
Q: What is the role of steel coils in the production of storage shelves?
Steel coils play a crucial role in the production of storage shelves as they serve as the primary material for manufacturing the shelf frames and support structures. These coils are processed and formed into various components, such as beams and brackets, which provide strength and durability to the shelves. By using steel coils, storage shelves are able to withstand heavy loads and ensure long-lasting performance in commercial and industrial settings.
Q: and which one is better?i'm looking into buying some aftermarket headers, but companies make them in both chrome and stainless steel
For headers go with stainless steel. Chrome holds heat in, and after a while it will discolor due to the high heat of the heads.
Q: How are steel coils used in the production of steel knobs?
Steel coils are used in the production of steel knobs by being fed into a stamping machine, where they are cut into the desired shape and size. The coils provide a continuous supply of steel material, ensuring efficiency and consistency in knob production.
Q: my friend needs sensitive ears....she wants to borrow mine but it says surgical steel, what does that mean?
Sergical steel means they are earings for sensitive ears. If she borrows them make sure you sanitize them before she wears them.
Q: What are the dimensions of steel coils used in automotive component manufacturing?
The dimensions of steel coils utilized in the manufacturing of automotive components can differ based on the distinct specifications of each component. Nevertheless, the industry typically adheres to standard dimensions, which usually span from 0.5 to 3 millimeters in thickness and 600 to 2,000 millimeters in width. The weight of these coils may vary, but typically falls within the range of 2 to 25 metric tons. These dimensions are carefully selected to ensure hassle-free processing and conversion of the coils into the essential automotive components, while simultaneously meeting the necessary standards for strength and durability, which are essential for their use in vehicles.
Q: How hot does steel have to get before it will melt?
Type your query into Yahoo! Search or other search engines to get the answer: It depends, since steel usually has different metals added for various properties (strength, corrosive resistance, etc.)
Q: More specifically steel wire (around 1/8 diameter). I'm doing a science fair project where I'm testing if concrete encased in steel has more fire resistance than steel by itself. However, I have no idea what the dimensions of concrete encased steel is so I can't scale down. And if I did have the dimensions I wouldn't know how to encase it around the steel wire (do I just poor concrete over it (heck I've never even used concrete)? Thanks for any help.
If you're designing this structure, I recommend not filling it with concrete. It will do very little for stiffness (steel is 7-8 times stiffer than concrete), almost nothing for strength (unless buckling of the steel cylinder is an issue), and will add lots of unnecessary weight.
Q: is it much difference between 1095 and 1080,,,1065,,,1060 or even 1045 steel?please help and thanks!
The guy below me obviously has no idea WTF he's talking about. It does NOT have anything to do with the edge angle at which the blade is sharpened. It does NOT have to do with heat treating. Both of these things are important, but they won't determine the type of steel. I'll try to help. 1095 is one of the best performing steels, against carbon steel or stainless steel, in the world. It's incredibly hard, holds its edge well and comes to a beautiful edge when sharpened correctly. As you know though, carbon steels need to be properly maintained to avoid rust/corrosion. Out of the steels you listed I'll give a brief summary of each steel... -1095 (Great all around steel, but is brittle by comparison to the others. This doesn't mean it will chip easily, but the other steels can take more of a beating. That being said, this is going to take a nicer edge, and hold it longer.) -1080 (A little bit more flexible and less liable to chip than 1095. A good compromise between edge retention/quality and ruggedness. -1065 (Commonly used in machetes and other heavy duty bush tools. Takes a decent utility edge and is highly unlikely to chip) -1060 1045 (Both extremely flexible and soft in comparison to 1095. Unlikely to chip, but it takes a crude edge. This edge will cut, but not like 1095 will.) Go with 1095. My favorite knife I own is in 1095 and serves me well everytime I head off into the woods. Keep some Rem-Oil on that bad boy though.
