It appears to be relying upon a phase change of liquid to gas to liquid to balance the system and return it to the east in the morning.
Q:Im looking at making a self build iPad solar panel charger, Is it possible to get a small solar panel, a battery to hold charge and then a USB output? nothing fancy, just power in and power out?
Yes you can. You would need to look up and see the voltage output by a USB port and the current rating. You should be able to find it on the web. I have found it in the past. Check several sites to make sure that you have the correct values. Then wire up the solar panels to get the correct voltage and current capabilities. You may need to learn how a LM7805 works and wire one of them up to the circuit if you can't wire the solar panels to get the correct voltage. Make sure that you protect the solar panels from the weather and have some kind of protection for your iPad so that it does not get rained on and ruined.
Q:And I'm tring to decide if I should buy it. Let's say my house would need Megawatt per hour. That's 000 megawatts per hour. This solar panel produces 36 watts. I don't know how if that means per hour or what???
There is no such thing as a megawatt per hour. Watts aren't a unit of energy, watts are a unit of power. Power is the rate at which energy is converted. Power is to energy as speed is to distance. Watt-hours or the famous kiloWatt-hour are units of energy. Also the Joule is the more scientific unit of energy.
Q:I have two solar panels that were going to be trashed at work. I want to use them to charge batteries on my RV but i noticed they put out around 20 volts in direct sunlight. So i am wondering: -isn't this way too much voltage for a 2 volt system? -do a need some sort of a regulator connected to keep them from overcharging?
You can use them without the regulator . Just make sure you use blocking diodes so the the power does not flow back into the panels . You can get those at radio shack of some electronic store or off OKorder for a few bucks .
Q:Has anyone had roof problems caused by rooftop solar panels?
Rooftop solar panels might cause all sorts of maintenance or poor installation problems but I rather doubt at this point if we can say that there is an issue with solar panels in general that will cause a problem with the roof. Rather solar panels tend to shade a roof on its most exposed side. Without solar panels southern facing roofs will wear out faster than northern facing roofs. Installed solar panels will tend to make the roof last longer.

Well I think solar technology is a viable solution to our energy problem. The only issue is that right now it takes too long for the panels to pay off unless you have a fairly big facility to power. Solar panels are getting cheaper and cheaper though, soon they will pay themselves off in less than ten years and I think then you will see more people buy them which will bring the price down even more. Solar done on a large scale is something that needs to be invested in ASAP. They can create jobs, power our nation and slow down global climate change.
