Q:My hubby and I are waiting to move in to our camper but have to figure out how many solar panels, batteries, etc. to get. I can't find the info per appliance for Watts and amps, but does anyone have a good, general idea of how many Watts it'd take to run the whole shabang? It's a 999, 25-foot Sportsmen tag-a-long, if that helps..It's got the following, and we'd like to run the propane things off of electric:*Refrigerator/freezer*Microwave*Oven/stove*AC/Heat*Will have a tv, phone chargers, laptop charger, but those will be unplugged when not in useThanks so much! It's such a headache.. You get SO MUCH different info from different places.. OI..
With an RV, you can find lithium bromide water chiller based refrigerators and air conditioner that run mostly on propane with just a little bit of electricity for a pump and fans. The oven, stove and heat, you can also run off propane. A Microwave is probably 750 watts but only operates for a few minutes at a time. You'll just have to go through everything item by item and figure out how many watts each one will draw and how long each will run per day to size your solar panel. Don't forget that the sun will only shine for a few hours each day. In general, for a camper, the target isn't to produce all the power you need but to slow down the drain on the battery bank to last till you get back onto the road where the engine can recharge the batteries. Keep in mind that the lithium bromide chiller systems only operate when stationary and level so some people opt for conventional electric systems just for convenience which sounds like what you're trying to do. Best way to figure out how much power each is drawing is by measuring it while in use. It may be worth it to put a meter on the battery bank and go camping one weekend with a generator or put a meter on the main circuit breaker panel and camp where power is provided, just to see what your typical use is. You're far better off running as much as possible from propane.
Q:what is the average cost, for a single family home, to install solar panels? I live in CA.
Although its costs have been going down a little, solar power is still pretty expensive. To power a home you are looking at at between $8000 to $20,000 dollars (it will eventually pay for itself). There are systems that tie into the existing local power supply so that you have the city's power for back up (note: most power companies will buy electricty from you if you make more than you use). Then, of course, there are stand alone systems that operate without anyother power source (these are best for use in a place where electric lines aren't available or practical).
Q:I am doing a big project for school, and I have decided to do it on solar panels. I am new to the subject but have done some research on it; I would like to buy a single panel, a charge controller, an inverter and a battery, to charge a simple lamp. My question is if the items in the links will work together and if the panel will produce electricity?
go with a 2 volt dc lamp bulb [auto lamp] then you wont need the inverter, all solar panels produce dc current
Q:I want to also know if the 0 watt rating on the solar panel is 0 watts per day or is it constantly adding 0 watts? Is there a time which the 0 watts is being added like 0 watts per second or 0 watts per minute and so on?
a 0w solar panel means at peak efficiency ( high noon, panel pointed flat at the sun, hitting it at 90 degrees), you will get 0 watts (at any given second). Watts = volts x amps a 2volt battery needs an incoming current of at least 3 volts to charge it; 3.5 volts is better. so if the output VOLTAGE of the panel is less than 3 volts it wont do anything. Even if it is, 0 / 3.5 = .74 amp.( three quarters). It will take forever and a day to charge a deeply discharged deep cycle battery.......... consider that a small 0v battery charger is putting out 3-5 amps ( or 3 x 0 =330 Watts) and the alternator on a car is putting out 20 to 50 amps at 4 volts ( 280 to 730 Watts).
Q:What is the average annual energy output of solar panels that can be installed on the home?
The Sun provides about 360 W per square meter above the atmosphere (Solar Constant). Approximately 2/3 of the energy is lost in passing through the atmosphere, which means you should anticipate at best about 450 W per square meter arriving at a solar panel directly facing the Sun on a clear day. You can anticipate an efficiency of approximately 30% for a typical solar collector, or about 00 W to 40 W per square meter of solar collector being delivered as electricity under the best of conditions. These are estimates, but we need better information on the actual power delivered per square meter of a particular solar collector under the best of conditions before we can begin to estimate the amount of energy per meter squared collected over a typical year for a given location.
Q:What materials are solar panels made of?
Solar panels are typically made of silicon, which is a semiconductor material, along with other components such as metal frames, glass, and protective layers.
Q:How do solar panels affect the overall comfort of a building?
Solar panels can positively impact the overall comfort of a building by reducing energy costs and improving indoor temperature control. They generate clean and renewable electricity, which can power various systems such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units. This helps to regulate the indoor temperature more efficiently, leading to a more comfortable environment for occupants. Moreover, solar panels can also reduce reliance on the grid, ensuring a more reliable energy supply and enhancing the comfort and stability of the building.
Q:Interested in buying solar panels to save on electric bill.Any government help plans?
Check with your Power Company, ours has had several $$$ Incentive Programs that they get involved with,Federal,State, and Private Sector. Just about anything High efficiency or Electrical saving, including Solar.
Q:I'm just geting into electonics and stuff. So I am trying to make a simple USB charger. I'm looking for at least 4 volts output. What I've got is two solar panels (detached) a 4 AA battery holder, and a circuit board with an led on it (took the solar panels out of old lawn lights. I need more charge out of my panels (I think) so I tried attaching them. I soldered the positive wire from one to the positive connection on the other and negative wire to negative connection. After doing so and checking the multimeter, it says I have no output at all. How do you connect them?
Leave the two positive terminals connected together.Disconnect the negative leads from each other. Get two amp diodes from radio shack. Connect each diode in series with each negative lead. there is a band on one end of the diode. Connect each diode so that the end with the band is attached to the negative side of each solar panel. Tie the other ends of the diodes together. This will become the new negative end of your solar panel supply. With the sun shining on the panels , you will now measure the voltage from the plus side of the solar panels to the new negative junction. Connect your load leds in place of the voltmeter and enjoy. Without the diodes , each solar cell thinks the other solar cell is the load. In effect each solar panel is shorting out the other. Some solar panels that you buy already have a diode in their junction box connected for that purpose. You need the diodes to provide the necessary isolation between the two panels, then they can both act in parallel to provide current to the load.
Q:Dose a solar panel need the entire range or spectrum of sunlight to produce power?
I think it's in the Ultra-Violet range because Solar Panels will still put out almost full power on an overcast day.
