Q: what kind of brush to use.: I just did this successfully. First, take the door off the hinges and lay on saw horses, out of direct sunlight, if you are painting outside. Remove the door knob. Wash the door thoroughly with soap and water. Rinse allow to dry. Mask off the hinges and tape newspaper to windows, if any. Spray a light coat of primer on the door. I wanted to spray my door with Rustolium spray paint, but the color I wanted was not available in spray paint, so I got paint meant for metal surfaces and I rolled it on with a small foam roller for an even brush stroke less finish. I rolled two coats of paint on the door, allowing the paint to thoroughly dry between coats. You cannot even tell the door was not painted by a professional.

Q: My shower door frame is ugly! It is gold. Most shower frames these days are silver. Is there any way to paint the gold metal? My biggest obstacle is having the paint stick long term through out the daily waterings.If there is a way, please let me on any prep work that I many need to do. Q: what type of primer is used for metal doors?: Alkyd (oil based) 1) Remove the door from the frame, and remove the hardware. 2) Install two 3 long screws at top and bottom towards the corners, (only screw them in about 1). 3) Set up a pair of saw-horses and lay the door flat on the screws to paint one side and edges, then flip the door over (with a helper) using the protruding screws as handles. 4) Paint the other side. After it's dried for a day, lightly sand brush marks with 220 sandpaper. Wipe with a tack rag, and then color coat with a good quality alkyd paint.

Galvanized metal will have to be pickled first. Wipe it with a rag soaked in vinegar, and dry with a clean towel.
