Q: I have a 97 Wrangler soft top - plastic windows. What is the best way or product to use? I can barely see out my windows!
soap and water is the best thing to use a very light detergent soap. do not use any kind of windex or something smiler as it will turn y our plastic brown. you can go and get some plastic cleaner and use but soap and water is just as good and allot cheaper.
Q: What exactly is this clear plastic window called and can I replace it? If so, where would I find the part? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Do I need to replace the entire cluster panel?
Have you called the parts department at your Ford dealer? When I worked at Ford in the 80s I believe you could order them as a separate part.
Q: I am moving with my family into a house that has large plastic skylights. The trouble is that the former tenant told me that a they are very thermally conductive and contribute to astronomical heating and cooling bills. I spoke with a contractor about it and he said tinting would be the only way to go because normal plastic insulation film wouldn't stick on the windows as they are themselves plastic. But I don't want to tint the windows and lose the lovely light. Does anybody think the plastic film would work or have any other ideas? Thanks for any help you can give!
You can use indoor plastic kits. They contain sheets of plastic film, which looks like cling-film, but is slightly thicker. The kit also comes with double-sided tape, and you use this to tape the wooden framing (around the window pane). You then cut out the plastic to fit the size of your window frame and fix it to the tape. Finally, you blow a hair dryer on the plastic, which shrinks it so that it is very tight.
Q: and where can i get it? I remember my dad did this to our windows growing up and it was like shrink wrap for them and he had to use a hairdryer....any ideas where i can get it and does it work?
Frost KIng and 3M make these window film treatments that you are talking about...You can buy either one at a home depot/Lowes/Menards /Ace Hardware or True Value. YOu are correct ...Use a home hair dryer after apllying the film to a clean perimeter of the insde window and it will shrink to a drum tight and air tight enclsoure. Come spring time you simply need to peel it off and you are back to the summer mode...HOwever you will have to re purchase again for next winter..But for the price you get a lot of value...The 3M is by far the superior product due to the adhesives used on the border and the mil thickness of the palstic...Of o =course you pay more as well ..
Q: What is the U value of the heat shrink plastic window film?
no ideal, just know it keeps the cold air out. it might tell u on the package u buy.
Q: i bought two white window blinds and then when i got home, i realized the color doesn't go with the color of my wall. black blinds would suit my wall better. so what kind of paint should i buy to color over the plastic surface of the blinds? thank you!
Krylon brand plastic spray paint,
Q: Do they still make them. Like the ones we used to have in the 70's and 80's. Or is it an outdated concept? If yes, where can I find them or how can I make one? The pole has to be about 8 feet long. thanks! : )
Do you mean like the ones where you pull them down and they unroll, and then to open them back up you pull down slightly and push them back up? I have those and I got them at the Home Depot. You can special order them in whatever size you want. And, they're fairly inexpensive. I have them on two picture windows with a southwest exposure, one about 6 feet long and the other about 7 feet long. I also have 2-inch horizontal mini blinds on those windows. But, the blinds are so long and heavy that they don't completely close all the way. So, I had to install the roll-up blinds behind them. And, they work great.
Q: In my bedroom I have an arc-shaped window over the regular window. There are plastic grids between the panes of glass for decoration. One of them fell to it's side. Is there a way to fix this without replacing the window? Thanks!
If it is inside of a thermo pane window, then you must replace the sash. The sash is the piece of glass, with a frame around it. You don't need to replace the whole window. Usually false frame grids are accessible on the inside of the window. From what you mention, it sounds like you have an extra pane of glass on the inside. Are you able to open the window? If so you should be able to access the grid and replace it into the slots that receive the grid on ther sash. If you can't open the window, it is illegal in a bedroom. You must be able to escape out a window and door in each bedroom, in case of fire.
Q: i got mad and threw something a my widow and one panel broke so how do i reinforce that otherpanel
I have repaired CRACKED window panes. It's important that none of the glass fell out, AND that all the cracked edges fit to each other tightly, AND are flush with each other. When all the pieces are flush [flat to each other, and in the same 'plane'] I VERY GENTLY AND CAREFULLY squeeze Super Glue ONLY INTO the cracks. IF one is very careful, surface tension 'draws' [sucks] the glue into the crack without leaving any excess on the glass surfaces to mar the appearance, AND if done properly, when cured, the glue 'disappears,' and the crack almost disappears. The Super Glue not only 'hides' the crack, but it also reinforces and waterproofs the joint. I do not know how long this 'fix' will last because the Ultraviolet in sunlight MIGHT degrade the glue, but if it should, one could always just 'run another bead' of glue.
Q: I have a 1994 convertible with a plastic rear window, and it has 13 years of dirtiness on that thing. There is a bunch of ugly what I presume are scratches all across teh middle (probably from the folding process). Also, there are little almost transparent white circles (you have to see them from an angle though)... that are also really annoying. Can you identify what those circles are??I've tried meguire's plastx polish...and even some white vinegar distilled in water.Currently, im looking for a more aggressive product.
I agree with John Paul. No matter how much you try to refurbish it you'll still notice all of the blemishes that bother you.
