- Q: Hi there,My apartment is getting so cold. Since I can feel the cold air coming in through the windows I decided to buy a plastic kit that may help me on this situation. When I read on the back it says that it can not be done on drywall (there are not frames around the windows just the draywall). Any suggestions? I would really appreciate it.
- Cut your plastic to fit inside the opeing and use Blue masking tape to adhere to window. Taping to the drywall will cause bigger problems when removing.
- Q: Can YOUHOOS at Yahoos give me an idea where I can find a sheetof heavy clear/ or even transparent plastic to put over my window thatnot like this cheap garbage I used from Frost King at home depot.. The last stuff came from a roll and was heavy duty and I don't need a roll of it, I'm just drawing a blank here. And this boxed up stuff sold in cheap discount stores really is garbage 1 mil junk.. Oh, and yes, this is their outdoor stuff , not the shrink indoor kit.... The window is about 4 ft x 6 ft..... 1950 era.....(hence the need for plastic ). I've got a few smaller as well... Thank You hoos....

- Q: Just wanted to know.
- Windows use Vinyl. Most bottles are made from PET.
- Q: Does that thin plastic window covering people use during the winter really help any?
- Thin covering may help a little. Of course it depends on the intensity of the cold. The thicker the plastic the better. Of course I would recommend you have a contractor assist you with winterizing your home, in the early fall.
- Q: I saw an online video that we can go to our local home depot etc and buy kits where we use a blow drying and put plastic on the inside of our windows. How much does this really help in saving on energy costs for those of you who know this kind of stuff. I am on a very limited budget, so I am looking at those,
- anything that will add another layer of protection, is going to save you dollars and give you comfort
- Q: Can you get an electrick sock when you slum the door of your car and touching the rubber/plastic where the window holds on to? isn't plastic an islulator?
- Yeah plastic is an insulator but In this case it store potential charge in to it, when a conductor comes in contact (you) then it releases the charge (as the charge flows from high potential to low). So it can give a shock. It is very obvious to ask where from this charge get into the Plastic?? Have you ever rubbed your plastic scale and then take it closer to paper bids? (it is weired, isn't it? ;) ) If not then do it right now. the plastic scale attracts the paper bids because it has got some potential due to RUBBING. I think you got your all answers..... :) Hope it helped.
- Q: I don't know what they mean by 'apply tape to bottom of protruding sill.' I have a sill, do they mean on the surface of it, or below the sill on the wall, or should i just put the tape around the window and apply the plastic, just not sure how to handle the sill...thanks...
- Having used this stuff myself, I've learned that the weak point in the system is the adhesive strength of the tape. Since the plastic will be stretched, it will be pulling constantly against the tape, so having the plastic go around edges before taping helps to reduce the force against the tape. In other words, instead of putting the tape along the inside edges of the molding, or even on the face, I wrap the plastic across the face of the molding and attach the tape along the outside edges of the molding, where it meets the wall. With the plastic going around a 90-degree bend, it helps relieve stress on that adhesive. At the sill, I put the tape on the bottom of the sill -- not the face of it, but the underside. That's what has worked best for me. The tape holds, and the plastic stays in place.
- Q: will the house retain heat if plastic windows and frames are installed?
- Very little. It is the trapped air inside insulation that makes it work. If the windows and or frames are insulated, then yes. The problem is, the gas used to insulate windows is not a do it yourself thing.
- Q: rail that holds window fell, i took apart and see thta two lil plastic white bushings was broken. but cant seem to find it online or at parts store... there really aint many junk yards around here. do i really have to buy a whole door kit to get this fixed????
- you can order the parts separate from a dealer, that's the best place to get those at,they don't cost but a few bucks, and are well worth it,good luck.
- Q: does tapeing plastic over windows help very much in winter?
- I don't know why you would want to tape windows. The best way to keep a place warm is to have curtains and close them to keep the heat in. That is a fact. Try it and you will see. good Luck. You could buy curtains in a charity shop but have your measurements. No Offence meant
