- Q: I have a commercial pool thats about 100 years old ( with modern modifications). The ceramic tiles on the floor area are original. We have been begged by just about everyone not to replace them. It looks soo dirty. Our comepetition is more expensive.....water quality is horrible....and their pools are packed all day. Im lucky to get 5 people in an 18 hour day. The water and inside the pool look nice.....just getting to the pool...people think they will get a disease. Its just old age stain....not sure what that is exactly.
- you could try an acid base cleaner on the tile . These type of stains may be just old age though and i know every one says don't replace old things but if these tiles are past there prime? i am sure you can get a modern tile that has the same look

- Q: My house is 55 years old. They had vinyl floring in the bathroom. We wanted to replce the flooring but when we hauled up the vinyl, theres 2inch ceremic tiles underneath. I think the vinyl was glued down because the tiles are a mess. We bought some vinyl flooring to put back down. Whats the best way to do this? - Yes it has been done. However, you must cover all bases first. Check the solidity thickness of the existing floor. Tile needs a good solid base for support. After all, it's much heavier than vinyl. Make certain the entire sub floor is level, or your tile will crack. Tile over vinyl is thick won't match the the height of adjoining floor. You'd need a raised threshold to help it look less conspicuous. It's far easier to remove old floor replace with sturdy sub floor than to cut, chop, chip rip all tile floor later. It may seem easier right now, but check this out: ~m~

- I believe the general rule in vinyl flooring or tiles is if it was manufactured before 1984 it probably has asbestos in it.....since it is old tile which probaby has some edges that are somewhat risen in spots,I recommend going over the floor with quarter inch plywood or luan,which should solve the problem.....
- Q: I just grouted the ceramic tiles I laid in my kitchen. The grout was supposed to be a dark maroon color, but it turned out a whitish powdery color (efflorescence). What is the main cause of this...it can't be water coming from underneath the tiles because the basement is underneath the kitchen floor...unless it came from the mortar under the kitchen tiles. How do I get rid of the efflorescence. Grout cleaner didn't work...should I use salfamic (spelling?) acid and scrub the grout lines? Can J just refloat new grout over the existing grout? - Was it a premixed grout? If you mixed it yourself you might have added too much water or took too long to spread it. Using too much water to clean the grout off could be the problem also. Grout also has a shelf life. You cannot grout over grout. You might find a grout stain to stain the grout the color you want. Don't use acid! Tiles can be cleaned with vinegar and water.

- most all tile manufactures will tell u to clean tile with just a damp mob and warm water. it would really help if u had soft water.
